"So what about the fact that Langdon considers me a threat?" Jack asks.
Robby's mind goes silent. He shifts his weight, holding the line so that mental images of the past don't break through. "I, uh, I don't know what you're talking about."
Jack twists to face him with his whole body. "You don't know about Langdon coming in here, intentionally trying to provoke me?"
Robby forces a laugh. "That's not what he was doing."
"He walked in here shirtless and propositioned you right in front of me," Jack says roughly. "He was staking his claim."
"He was not!" Robby insists.
"Does he know about us?"
The words are a tank bursting through that mental dam, letting the memories pour through. Jack's hands on his skin. His balls slapping Robby's ass. Fervent kisses to chase away whatever horror they'd survived. It's been two years since they last collided, but Robby can still taste his tongue.

Day 6: Held Down. It's supposed to be a normal night, just Robby and Langdon hanging out with Jack. But when Langdon goes a little too far in his playfulness, it shifts their dynamic irreparably.

Despite all advice to the contrary, Robby went on his trip. With only his own thoughts and his bike for company, it was a surprise to precisely no one when he started to fall apart even more keenly than before.
He was alone, after all. He'd driven Janey away, Heather, and had sunk so low to start thinking about asking out the R1, half his age, who kept looking at him like he hung the moon. Thank God for Jack, who always called him out, took his calls, and was there, braced to catch him.
Thank God for Jack who, apparently, wasn't as straight as Robby had once thought that they both were.
Or: What does it take to make two highly intelligent, over-qualified idiots in love to get over themselves? Apparently, it's a couple of months of passive aggressive text messages, a three-day road trip, and a one-bed flat.

Summary
It wasn't easy yet. Jack didn’t know if it ever would be between the two of them. Some days, it was still all they could do to not set each other careening into fight or flight. We make quite a pair, Jack thought sometimes: two matched collections of accumulated scar tissue. On bad days, he could read the old insecurities in the deepened creases between Robby’s brows. But now, Robby at least tried to let him in, painfully cracked open his mouth and let a few of his worries escape, trusting the light of Jack's patient affection to chase them away.
