Summary
Pippin scrambled to sit down next to Boromir. In his haste, their elbows knocked together, but Boromir did not react or admonish him. Indeed, he seemed content to let the sounds of the forest do his talking, the two of them surrounded by humid air and the thrum of distant Elvish singing.
Pippin stewed for a few seconds more, breath heavy, but could not stop himself.
He blurted, “Mister Boromir, can I ask you something?”
Boromir sighed, nodded, and then spoke. “You may, master Hobbit.”
“Do you think Gandalf meant to die?”

Summary
Earlier that day, her grandsire had looked upon the sea with her. Most of the dragons sat upon High Tide’s highest hill, yet Vhagar had chosen a sandy bed apart from the rest. She had hardly moved nor even twitched the entire day.
Her grandsire had gestured to the dragon and said, “Does the very sight of it not reek with melancholy, Princess? With grief?”
Helaena had nodded, grasping the velvet of her funeral cloak in sympathy for Vhagar. An old man might regale to you his sorrow in having outlived all his friends; were dragons any different? Had Vhagar not endured her fair share of sorrow?

Summary
Sometimes, Aragorn thinks he can see Boromir out of the corner of his eye. It has been a year and a half. He ought to have stopped this after the first six months. He ought never to have seen him in the first place. Because what is there to see?
Aragorn and Boromir - as memories and ghosts, sometimes these are one and the same, sometimes they're not. Or, as Anne Carson has it in Nox: "I fall, you fall, I have fallen, fell, a neutral verb, whence casual and casually."

Summary
"Lady Galadriel's husband?" Faramir asks in turn, and then flushes — no man would appreciate being addressed as his wife's husband. Well, he wouldn't mind, personally. But he's not like most other men. Nor, it seems, is this silver-haired elf, who is outright laughing at Faramir's flustered apology.
"Lady Galadriel's husband indeed, pleased to make the acquaintance of Lady Éowyn's betrothed," he smiles, bows low, and winks. "My name is Celeborn. And you have spent some time dead, I hear?"
"I have," Faramir nods. "Six minutes, they say."
________________It is a day of statewide mourning in Gondor for the losses of the War of the Ring, a ritual involving mass funerary pyres. Celeborn and Faramir skive off and spend the day beside an oddly named river very few have heard of, and find they have more in common than a fear of fire.

Summary
It is the first time the Four Hunters have had mattresses and sheets and blankets since Lórien, and even longer since they had such a thing of Man-make - threadbare enough for one such as Boromir to feel at home.
Evidently, he does feel at home. When Aragorn comes to their room, in the middle of putting his pipe out, he finds Boromir collapsed face-down onto the bed with all his clothes on. He hasn’t even bothered to remove his boots.

The manner in which Boromir sleeps prioritizes, above all else, convenience.

Summary
“Gandalf is going to turn me into a weasel,” Pippin told Boromir. “I shall need a pocket to ride in. May I borrow yours?”
Boromir blinked. “Oh,” he said. “Ohh. Yes, certainly, so long as you are a weasel-sized weasel and not a hobbit-sized weasel.”
Pippin turned to Gandalf, caught by this new idea. “Can you make me into a hobbit-sized weasel?”
“For mercy's sake,” said Gandalf.
In which Pippin has approximately sixty uninterrupted leagues to find out everything that can be found out from Gandalf and gets approximately sixty times more than he bargained for.

“Your mother is going to kill me someday,” Father says, flopping down onto the sofa next to her and picking up the newspaper.
Like, that’s an acceptable image to plant in the impressionable head of his young daughter.
