Summary
A fight before the announcement of the Irina Foundation breaks up Shane and Ilya for good, but when Shane retires sixteen years later, they must decide what they mean to each other all over again.

“Ilya Rozanov, your old rival, has been making a huge impact in his retirement with his charity the Irina Foundation. When asked about whether he would be willing to bury the hatchet with you when you retired and invite you to teach at his hockey camps, he said ‘That’s up to him.’ What do you say to that?”
Shane flinches at the name despite how used to it he should be. Although Ilya had retired six years ago, he was rarely interviewed without being asked about him. He supposed it was poetic that the man who had beaten him in the draft and who he had replaced as captain of the Centaurs after his retirement was the subject of the last question he would ever answer as a professional hockey player.
PSA: This is canon compliant with S1 of the show, but it diverges from what will happen in S2, (hence the tags), so this is safe to read if you don't want spoilers.

That was Shane Hollander. His heart plummeted straight to his feet.
Troy had never been thrilled to see Shane on the ice against him, but this was decidedly worse as the man threw a towel over his shoulder, dark eyes studying him intently.
“Fuck me,” Troy whispered as he looked at Ilya, who gave a not-so-apologetic shrug. Asshole.
Hollander clicked his tongue. “Seems like the world thinks my fiancé is doing that,” he said flatly.
“They are calling us Rozarrett,” Ilya said unhelpfully. “Or Baranov. I’m not sure which.”
Troy wanted to scream at him, but he had other problems at the moment. “Did you say fiancé?”
