Ormund glanced at them with a disapproving frown. Gwayne held his breath as the other tapped his fingers against the counter edge, jaw tightening as he took in words typed across the top of them. “What are these?” He hissed.
Swallowing around the tightness in his throat, Gwayne explained. “I’m presenting you with a choice. These,” he motioned to the papers on the left, “are permission slips for that trip to Braavos Daeron told us about.” His belly was doing flips as he nervously watched on for Ormond’s reaction.
Nostrils flared, Ormond shifted his shoulders back and jutted his chin up. “Let me guess. You want me to sign them?”
He pondered for a moment if that was what he wanted, before nodding. “Sign them and while Daeron is away, you and I will go to couples therapy and work out our problems. If you don’t, you can sign these instead.” He slid the papers on the right closer to Ormond. “Divorce papers.”

Eighteen years ago, Snare was a shining star, the biggest up-and-coming rock band to emerge out of Sunspear. That was eighteen years ago. Back then, Baelor was the other half of his soul, and Aerys and Rhaegel were his arms and his legs. But that had not been true for years. Maekar could have counted on his ten fingers how many times he’d seen Baelor since their band broke up.
Or the one where Maekar travels to Tyrosh for his nephew’s wedding. While there, he learns that some doors never shut fully, despite how hard he kicked them closed.

Summary
Jena Dondarrion had died birthing his second nephew a few months earlier, a red-headed boy that looked just as unsuitable for the realm as Valarr before him. It was neither of their faults — the realm judged the babes on appearance alone, but appearance meant a great deal in the seven kingdoms, especially when a bastard carried the Valyrian look more than Baelor ever would. He needed an alliance that would stabilize his claim. The small council debated at length on the problem.
It appeared Maekar had very neatly solved it for them.
Or, a royal wedding helps their political interests. It does very little for their personal ones.
