Summary
It should be impossible - having dreams about another person’s life. And yet, Grace kept dreaming about Simon. His life on mars. The expedition. Horrible flashes of Eden. Impossible, much like the sudden appearance of Sanguis. Like the strange flash of light he saw through images on the terminal.
Simon made it out. Something saved him. It brought him to a friendly alien and a kindhearted man who gave him more compassion than he had known in decades. He didn’t deserve it. They thought he was a botanist, someone who nurtured plants instead of dismembering corpses to feed to their soil.
Rocky wants the new human to get along with Grace. He’s scared and sad, but he seems nice enough. In a way, Grace and Simon remind him of himself and Adrian. Like they were destined to meet.

Grace, after the first rough few years of being on Erid, has decided she is perfectly happy to stay here until she dies, because space is just a little much. And yet, space has now delivered her someone to help and take care of, someone who fascinates her and why did she have to be the most beautiful woman Grace has ever seen?! UGH. Simon closes his eyes. It's his own type of silent defiance. If this man isn't just fucking with him – if he does, for some strange reason, feel bad or guilty about capturing him, then good. Let him drown in it.
Simon is captured by a compulsive liar who, bafflingly, gives him food, smiles at him, and pretends the Quiet Rapture never happened.

A usual day of monitoring a nearby solar system brings a bright flash, blinding Grace. Looking back, the solar system is gone. A large void sitting, with a singular moon at its centre. Grace and Rocky go out to investigate, coming across a giant blood tree with a submarine wedged in the side. What they find inside isn't human, but it isn't not human either.
