Sunk-Cost Fallacy. Noun. The phenomenon whereby a person is reluctant to abandon a strategy or course of action because they have invested heavily in it, even when it is clear that abandonment would be more beneficial.
Stanley Pines is dying of a terminal illness. His once-estranged twin feels as though he's wasted so much of their limited time together already, that he needs to invest even more of it into the impossible task of curing Stan.

"Sixer... what did you do?"
“Nine Lives Lee”, a rare Stanley Pines who ended up on the other side of the portal instead of his brother, literally falls into “The Better World”, the dimension that many versions of Stanford Pines tend to be jealous of and hold over Lee’s head as ‘proof’ that everyone would have been better off if he’d just done what his brother asked him.
The Ford of this dimension, however, isn’t quite what he seems. And neither is his version of Stanley.

Other than being alternate versions of the same person, the only thing these two have in common is the mutual contempt other Fords have for them.Surely, anything resembling camaraderie let alone friendship isn't possible between them.

Inspired by flirppy on tumblr:
“I’ve seen people talk about how Filbrick threw Stan out but expected him to be home the next day and regretted kicking Stanley out. … I raise you one, though. Stanley trying to come back MULTIPLE times. Especially when he’s very hungry or at his lowest. …but Filbrick just gives him a stern look and says ‘Do you have my millions?’ When the answer is no, the door is slammed in his face.“To make it even worse, put this on Sea Grunks, Ford asking Stan why he never tried to come back and Stan just gives him a confused look and says ‘I did, I thought you knew.’”

Birch met The Count’s eyes. A conversation from lifetimes ago replayed in his mind—a moment of vulnerability in a castle, a home vastly different from this one, where he had spilled secrets as easily as he spilled blood. There was a world’s worth of agony in The Count’s stare, a burden only understood by someone who truly cared.

As useless as Orion was in a battle, he was Dipper's first partner pokemon, the one he'd been given along side Mabel's Eevee Comet back when we were ten. Most people were loath to give up on their first partner, and Dipper was no exception. So when Orion burrowed into his side further, he just sighed again and tightened his vest closed around the Eevee.
