“Where is Shane Hollander?” Yuna’s jaw dropped at the voice she’d only ever heard on tv and youtube. She pulled the phone away from her face as if the phone number would suddenly become “Ilya Rozanov.” when she brought the phone back to her ear all she could hear was heavy shaky breathing.
“I…” she didn’t know how to respond.
“Where is he?” Maybe if Yuna was in a better place she’d question why the voice was so desperate, but as she was all she could do was internalize that tone; Internalize that question, the same one she’d been asking for the last four days. Where the fuck is my son?

“‘You—wh—’ and then the pieces began to click into place. Shane was semi-safely pulling a u-turn before the image had even fully formed in his mind. But with the mention of his dad’s absence, his mom’s low state (uncomfortably close to depression for someone like Ilya,) and the pills that make you sleep better, Shane wasn’t sure how he didn’t realize what his husband’s reaction would be.”
Or: Ilya mistakes an emotionally low day for Yuna as a sign that she’s about to leave the world the same way Irina did. He does not handle it quite well.
