Summary
It’s kind of embarrassing. After nearly choking to death, being crushed by a ladder truck, swept up in a tsunami, having a pulmonary embolism, the thing that’ll finally kill him is NyQuil.
Fucking NyQuil.
He didn’t even think he took that much, but he only bought the bottle yesterday and it’s currently sitting empty on his bathroom counter. He should’ve paced himself. But his head hurt so bad from his damn sinuses being clogged, and he just wanted to sleep.
Well, now you’re going to sleep forever.
OR… Buck accidentally overdoses due to a bad habit instilled in him by his father.

Summary
Eddie Diaz: Ballroom dancer, artist, eldest child, anxious mess.
His entire life he's known what he has to be. The man of the house, the perfect student, the best dancer... heterosexual. When he meets Evan Buckley, younger brother of fellow dancer Maddie Buckley, his life is flipped upside down.
---
Evan Buckley: Poet, brother, disappointment, and recent amputee.
His life is at its lowest point. The only person he knows loves him is leaving, and he believes no one will ever stay. But when Eddie Diaz enters his life, he starts thinking, maybe there’s more to life than soul-crushing loneliness.
---
The two of them resume their walk, and Eddie looks curiously at Maddie’s brother. “She talks about you a lot, I’m surprised I didn’t figure it out sooner.”
The boy hums thoughtfully, then asks, “Do you know my name, then?”
Eddie shakes his head. “Nope. Somehow I missed that.”
“It’s Evan.”
Evan. His brain repeats.
Eddie stops walking again, and holds out his hand. “Nice to meet you, Evan. I’m Eddie. Diaz.”
Evan makes sure his crutch is tucked securely under his arm, then quickly takes the offered hand.“It’s nice to meet you, too.”

Summary
He’s everywhere. Eddie’s little joke is becoming more and more real by the second, and his heart is hammering in his chest. Left, right, up, down, it’s just Buck. Buck Buck Buck. A piece of himself he can never lose. No matter what happens; tsunamis, lawsuits, moving states. Buck’s always there.
Like glitter.
“Dad?” Chris’ voice finally cuts through the mess. “Are you okay?”
Eddie’s eyes find his son’s, and even there. Even in Chris. Eddie sees Buck.
“Uh, yeah.” He hears himself say, but it’s hardly convincing. “Yeah, I-I’m fine. I just…” Think I’m in love with Buck.
Or. . . Buck’s back living in his house after finally (physically) healing from New Mexico. Eddie’s left in his own house and can’t stop seeing Buck everywhere.

Summary
It shouldn’t have upset him as much as it did.
He’d been dealing with it since he was a kid. Parent-teacher nights skipped, trip forms left unsigned, school concerts missed, football games forgotten. But for some reason, this just… hit harder.
It was just a party. He tried telling himself. Not anything big or important.
But it was big. It was important. At least to him.
He- he saved someone. A real person from a real emergency. It was the first time in his life he felt like he did something. Like he mattered. If he hadn’t been there, someone would be dead. A little girl would be without her mother.

Evan saves a life and his parents don't care - enter Captain Dad for some comfort.

Summary
He had a brother. Daniel Evan Buckley. Evan. They gave Buck his name. There were no pictures of Daniel past the year 1989. Two years before Buck was born. Daniel died when he was six years old. And Buck was born to replace him.
That’s what he believed for the next fifteen years.
It made too much sense. Why his mom couldn’t bear to look at him most of the time. Why both of his parents put so much pressure on him to do well. He was their second chance. Daniel number two. The son they had instead of the one they wanted.
But he was wrong. And the narrative he had written for himself was about to come crashing down.

Summary
Buck was standing where Eddie had left him. The other man was already talking, something low and instructive, and Buck was listening with an expression that was pleasant and gave nothing away. A whole face full of nothing.
But before the door swung shut, Buck glanced over.
One look. The kind you gave when you weren't supposed to and gave anyway. Eddie held it for exactly as long as he could, which was not long at all.
The door closed. The carpet changed back.
"Buck was nice," Chris said.
"He was," Eddie said.
They walked back toward the Third Class sections without further discussion.
