Prim squeaked and ducked behind her, giggling. “Oops.”
“That’s all you have to say?” Katniss muttered—half-laughing, half-flushed.
Clove leaned against the counter with a smirk. “She’s clearly your sister. Can’t even finish breakfast without turning it into a dramatic performance. Or a fire hazard.”
“Very funny. Shouldn’t you have been paying attention too? You’re the supervising adult here.” Katniss bumped her hip.
“Little Everdeen assured me she had it under control.” Clove caught her around the waist before she could escape, voice low against her ear. “And someone was being a bit distracting.”
Katniss stilled, breath catching—not from pain this time, but from the way Clove’s fingers lingered. From the way her words landed like a promise.
