“What should I call you?” He asks his new alpha.
“Uh, you can call me Shane. You’re Ilya Rozanov, right?” The man says.
So he is being renamed. Ilya is a nice enough name, and he wasn’t particularly attached to the name his last alpha gave him anyway.
"Okay! I can be Ilya Rozanov."
Or: Ilya is on his way to meet his new alpha owner. Shane is waiting for his university roommate to show up. Some flaky paint means that Ilya knocks on the wrong apartment. A dark comedy of errors unfolds, in which Ilya thinks he is doing what he was purchased for, while Shane just thinks he has the best roommate ever. -

Shane supposed that all this started, really, the moment he met Ilya Rozanov’s eyes across the board at the annual Las Vegas Chess Festival.
The chess thing, well, that had started years before.
Shane Hollander was a child prodigy, one of the world's youngest Grandmasters. Ilya Rozanov is a new wave, twitch-streaming, rage-baiting chess player with a bad temper and dirty mouth.
They're playing their first ever match against each other. They’ve already been sleeping together for months.
Shane is acting totally normal about all of this.
