It’s a few days later when he finally finds Frida again. She’s hiding out under his work cabinet, seemingly having darted under there while startling at some unknown stimuli, and when he finds her she utters a tiny sound that’s almost pleading as she edges away.
Donnie finally understands why it curdles his stomach to see her like this. It reminds him of himself.
(Donnie's brothers bring home a cat to try and cheer him up. He's less than thrilled about the decision.
At least at first.)

What he does remember is staring up at the ceiling for the better part of two hours. Thinking. Rationalizing. Making realizations, with a kind of sinking feeling that goes right into some deep, dark part of his psyche.
Thinking that he’d just managed to find another way that he’s different from his brothers, all of a sudden. Another way that he’s weaker than them. Another way for them to secretly despise him, another way for him to fall behind, another way for him to not have any use.
Donnie can’t have that. If he’s of no use to the team, no use to his family, then—then what good is he?
Or: five times that Donnie despised his autistic traits, and one time that he didn't.

During a late night dive into the deepest depths of a classic Wikipedia rabbit hole, you come across an articles that seems like an interesting read. The name feels like it rings a bell, you think there's a chance you saw some Netflix documentary series plastered with this guys face or it coming up with some conversation with your grandparents.
This Whittman guy was some kind of megastar in the 1950's and a massive cult leader/serial killer. Deciding you have nothing better to do, you begin to read his article...

"We were so worried, we heard you—" Ragatha starts, and then looks up. She meets Jax's gaze dead-on, and goes silent. Tears brim in the corner of her eye. Her hand flies up to cover her mouth. He can't tell if the look on her face is relief or fear.
Gangle's staring at him like she's seen a ghost. Pomni slowly raises to her feet, brows furrowed. She winces as every movement jars her wavering form.
Cowered on the floor, panting, confused and disoriented, with everyone standing above him, taller than him… it reminds Jax of something deeply unpleasant. They're all staring at him. They're all seeing him.
Jax knows they're not going to like what they see.
His breath quickens until his head is spinning, and he feels like he's going to vomit. He forces himself upwards with a frustrated cry, swaying in place, and then turns and bolts towards his room as fast as he can.
"NO!" Pomni screams.
(or: pomni pulls jax back from the brink.)

Summary
But Jack is already bouncing to the new beat, dazzled by a rainbow of party lights, and moving closer so Robby can hear him. Robby’s eyes won’t look away, and his feet won’t move. It’s downright cruel that he should look like that, when it doesn’t matter anymore. It’s also a mercy that this ache never struck Robby this viciously in the Pitt, or else it might have frozen him at some crucial life-or-death moment.

It does not take them long to figure out that a lot of unusual and weird things happen in that town, all carefully documented in their grunkle's journals. More concerning is the recent string of attacks that are beginning to sound more and more like they were caused by a vampire... which turn out to be the one creature that Grunkle Ford refuses to discuss.
