The scent that clung to the material was subtle but unmistakably familiar — something uniquely human, uniquely Jim. It spoke of morning rituals shared in careful silence, of late nights bent over historical research, of the particular warmth that seemed to emanate from his captain even in this strange, cold time.
Spock closed his eyes, allowing himself this moment of weakness. In the privacy of their temporary home, with Jim safely away and no witnesses to his lapse in control, he permitted his emotional barriers to lower just enough to acknowledge the truth he had been struggling to suppress.
He was in love with James T. Kirk.
