When Annabeth woke up in an unfamiliar room, aboard an unfamiliar ship, "borrowed" by a pirate and his crew to help them search for Doors of Death, the last thing she expected to find was family, friendship and... maybe even herself.

    Summary

loosely inspired by lyrics from SZA’s “Anything”

Annabeth doesn’t know everything. Not how Percy really feels about her, not if Percy’s actually interested in Rachel, not if Percy’s suffering as much as she is from their distance, and definitely not whether Percy even knows her anymore.

Basically, Annabeth feels like she doesn’t know her own best friend—are they, still?—at all.

But it’s winter break, their friends are itching for an evening out, and some confessions slip out on the ice.

“I don’t want to fight,” he told her.

Her heart lurched in her chest.

“It’s not my business who you talk to. I just… I’ve missed you.” His voice faded into a low, strained whisper.

She wanted to tell him she missed him, too. More than she’d ever be able to express.

"Annabeth!" he called out, pushing off from the metal door with a casual ease that belied his interest.

"Got another stick up there, or are you just practicing for the role of the Ice Queen in the school play?"

She slowed, only enough to shoot him a glare that could've frozen the nearby water fountain.

His smile was smug and full of mischief.

"What are you, nine?" she scoffed.
