But despite all of these fuzzy and annoyingly happy things, all the experiences that previously calloused his heart and mind still loom over his shoulders. Who is Five Hargreeves without an apocalypse to survive, without a target to eliminate, without a fight to win, without his siblings to protect, without his life on the line?
It doesn’t feel right to be safe. There has to be something, someone playing the long game with him just to make it hurt more when it’s destroyed.
Perhaps what he did when he was last conscious, whenever that was, wasn’t as ludicrous as he thought.
OR: Five gets drunk and attempts suicide after lots of turmoil and angst + siblings find him lol

Summary
Five woke up to someone shouting his name, which only made the banging that seemed to be going on inside his skull to increase.
“Shut uuup” he moaned, not bothering to open his eyes and tensing, expecting some sort of pain for his comment. Talking back always brought punishment with it.
“Hey” the mystery person put a hand on his cheek, and immediately Five flinched and shut his eyes, expecting a slap, but it never came. Instead, the hand caressed his cheek, brushing his bruised cheekbone with his thumb. There was that feeling again, the hand was familiar to him, the rough calluses and the gentle touch… even the smell made him feel at home.

When Five goes missing for a week, his siblings do everything they can to find him.

Summary
The first time Five holds a gun in his hands he’s seven-years-old and wishing he could be anywhere else.
When they’re eight, Reginald starts sending them on ‘practice’ missions. He tells them that it’s preparation for their debut which is scheduled to be in two years, to make sure that they don’t mess anything up or hesitate at a critical moment.
In the apocalypse, he picks up the gun without thinking about it. It’s nothing special - there are plenty of guns lying around is the ruins of houses and police stations and megamarts.
In the Commission, he really should have known better. When they say fix the timeline, they mean eliminate the problems. And by eliminate the problem, they mean that while they can’t abide by getting their own hands dirty, they can have Five take care of the issue without a fuss.
Five holds a gun in his hands. He’s thirteen-years-old. He’s fifty-eight-years-old. He’s forgotten how old he is. Five holds a gun in his hands, and wishes he could be anywhere else.
