“We’re in your mind. Everything here is pulled from your thoughts and memories. People are as accurate as your perception of them.” Kunikida—no, it was not Kunikida, not really—fixed Dazai with a flat glare. “Since it’s you, it may as well be reality.”

“There is no way you are fine with what’s happening in Yokohama, Chuuya.”
“It’s all alright for me,” Chuuya said, not taking his eyes off the book this time. “After all, the Port Mafia is winning.” His face didn’t reveal any of his emotions, but it didn’t escape Dazai’s attention that Chuuya’d been stuck on the same page for a while now.
“Really? I heard you’ve been calling in sick quite often lately.”
“I am sick.” Chuuya looked up from the book and gave Dazai a cold stare. He raised his fist to his mouth and coughed theatrically. “I am a responsible citizen, after all,” he said, drilling Dazai with his heavy gaze. “I don’t go to work when I'm not well.”
Silence fell upon them. Dazai was the first to break it.
“Come with me.”

Summary
No one would be coming for him, he knew that. Even as the nameless, faceless GSS goons took turns trying to force information out of him and get him to spill the Mafia’s deepest, darkest secrets, of which he was privy to many, he knew that no one would come. They hit him with their fists, with needles, tools and weapons, but not once did he loosen his tongue except to taunt them.
Anyone in the Mafia who heard he was missing would assume he was skipping work, or fleshing out one of his own schemes. Not a single soul would believe that he had really been stupid enough to get caught by some low level nobodies. He was the Demon Prodigy, the Black Wraith of the Port Mafia. He was supposed to be better than this, and that was why he would die.
