Chapter Text
“Dazai-kun.”
Mori-sama’s voice echoed throughout the room. Cold and commanding, a voice he used sparingly with the young man he was speaking to.
“You need to stay here.” Continued the Leader of the Port Mafia; a criminal organization that dominated the city of Yokohama.
The girl was surprised to say the least, as she stood in the shadows of the dimly lit room. The only source of light was the glass wall. It opened the room to the harsh light of the sunset that currently washed over the city. She had never heard Mori speak in such a tone, and was stunned by the emotion that he revealed in his speech. Rarely did her boss’ actions hint at any emotional weaknesses.
“Or is there a logical reason why you should go to him?” His voice was near threatening as he continued. The guards at the door cocked their guns at the young man, who’s back still faced towards his superior.
“There are two things I wish to say to you, Boss.” Dazai spoke with respect, addressing Mori-sama with his formal title.
“First, you will not shoot me. Nor will you have your subordinates shoot me.” Silence enraptured the room.
She knew the weight of his words; his confidence was definite. The boy’s predictions were never wrong. The boss knew this too.
She observed his unruly hair, eyes tracing the expensive coat draped on his broad shoulders.
“Why? Because you hope one of my subordinates will shoot you?” spoke the Boss, in his condescending tone.
“No, Because you have nothing to gain from it.” Responded the young man.
Mori shifted his position at the implications in the boy’s words, clothes rustling as he looked towards the young executive.
“I believe you also have nothing to gain by defying me and going to him.”
Dazai ignored the boss’s words and spoke again.
“As for the second thing, Boss.” A pause, the boy inhaled lightly. A noise that was barely susceptible, but was easily picked up by trained ears.
“There may be nothing to gain by my actions, but there is one reason why I will still go.”
Dazai turned around, facing Mori-san once again.
She was surprised by the expression on his face, for it was one that he had never shown to Mori before. It lacked coldness, and there was almost a kindhearted sadness in his eyes.
“It’s because he is my friend.”
The young girl standing there was stunned. Dazai-san was betraying Mori’s orders, and possibly the organization. However, she let no emotions show in her eyes, because no matter how hidden she was, Dazai would know she was present.
And as Dazai’s eyes met hers, it was confirmed. Despite the strategic position she had chosen that would blind anyone else of her existence, the young prodigious executive had picked her out.
But what truly frightened the girl was the ecstasy in his eyes and the tranquil expression on his face as he openly defied his superior.
The doors slammed closed behind the executive as he exited the headquarters, completely unstopped by the guards, just as he had predicted. She walked out of the shadows and approached her boss warily.
“Mori-sama.” She questioned. The guards at the door were startled by her sudden appearance.
“Yes,” He responded as if nothing of importance had previously transpired. He casually sipped his tea, unfazed by the loss of his right-hand man.
“Has Dazai... gone?” the girl’s eyes merely reflected confusion. The man knew the weight of the girl’s question as he answered.
“I believe he has chosen to leave us.” Spoke the Boss, placing his teacup back on its tray.
“But he will be back soon.” He confirmed with lightheartedness.
The girl chose to believe Mori, however gullible it seemed. Because the boss, much like his young apprentice, had never made a false prediction.
Mori-san stood up, “Come, we have more to do.”
He walked out of the office through the hidden back doors, and the young girl followed, a picture of submission.
