She’s ready to welcome them inside, kettle set to boil for tea to warm them up from an afternoon spent outside playing, a cartoon on the television, before she spots his tear-stained cheeks and haunted eyes and realizes just how out of place such an expression is on her godson's face.

Summary
There are only three rules within The Rails.
1. Don't stare for too long

3. Don't get caught.Hitoshi Shinsou has not led the most ordinary life. His home is a shipping container, his clothes are not really his own, and his father harbors more secrets than he can wrap his seven year old mind around. But he feels safe where he is, not only because it is all he's ever known, but because where his father goes an undeniable sense of security follows suit.
After one fateful night leads to the unravelling of the carefully woven threads of his (not-so) ordinary life, Hitoshi is forced to make decisions no child should ever have to make; Choices that could mean the difference between life and death.
And hey, if this idiot hero with a ridiculous scarf wants to get himself killed by stepping foot into The Rails, then maybe Hitoshi could help at least one person escape his home with their life—He doesn't exactly have the best track record of that.
