    It gets repetitive quickly, how often they dance around it, in their leaps and twirls of shared glances broken nearly instantly, punches to guts and feet pattering on sand and rock, quills brushed back in the wind.

    Shadow wonders how long they can push themselves like this.

    “Giving up already?” Sonic taunts, flying past him in his moment of distraction.

    “I’m just getting started, faker!”

    Sonic blinks, the pain having evaporated so fast he feels almost weightless. “Shadow?”

    Shadow’s breathing heavily. “Problem.”

    The retrieval of the ancient tech Shadow (and Sonic, in tow) has been sent to uncover takes a turn for the worst. In this case, the “worst” means… becoming physically and inextricably linked to each other. For the foreseeable future.
