Memories trickle in. He’s pretended that everything is fine for so long that it comes as particularly galling to slip up that he hasn't gotten over Obi-Wan's deception even though everyone else praises Obi-Wan for his sacrifice—
Just what did Obi-Wan sacrifice, exactly? Not his peace of mind. Not his blasted honor. Obi-Wan didn’t lose a damn thing by pretending to be dead. Bitterness curdles under Anakin's tongue, accusations swallowed back. What about me? How could you do that to me? How could you leave me alone?
Anakin had mourned his loss; Anakin had been the one to comfort their Padawan; to return to their silent quarters.
Obi-Wan is back—and Anakin is still strangled by his grief.

The cub opens its eyes at the same time Obi-Wan hears Qui-Gon say, as if from far away: “The choice is yours to make. But it’s only right that you be aware that doing so will kill the j’ali."
Intelligent curiosity shines in its eyes. The thought of damning it to a cruel and heartless death brings Obi-Wan physical pain. “No,” whispers Obi-Wan unknowingly. He can’t let the cub die. If he does, he senses that the Force will rip itself loose and leave him a hollow echo.
“I thought so,” says Qui-Gon, resigned.
(While on a mission, Obi-Wan is gifted an unusual beast.)

Summary
Obi-Wan Kenobi thinks he's slowly but surely redeeming Darth Vader. The Jedi think differently, but how can he possibly entrust the Jedi with the care and keeping of Anakin Skywalker after they'd failed so erroneously before when they'd sent the child back to his mother only for Darth Sidious to kidnap him from beneath their very noses?
Meanwhile Darth Vader, who will go by Anakin if it's Obi-Wan Kenobi's voice sounding out the syllables of that long-dead name, thinks he is slowly but surely dragging the warmest Light he's ever known down to the Dark. He'll never be cold again, not if he can slowly convince Obi-Wan to shift his allegiance from the Republic and the Jedi...to him.

Chapter 40: I was asked on Tumblr to do a sequel to the Palpatine vs Obi-Wan fic. I'd love to see more of Obi-Wan's reaction to Palpatine making Anakin choose, him addressing the Padme thing with Anakin, and some gentle healing. So here we go ~

JEDI ORDER MAINTAINS SILENCE
The Jedi Order has refused to comment on the contents of the intimate private messages shared between two of its members. The messages were released in what we now know was an attempt made by the former Senator Soki to distract from evidence of embezzlement and fraud in his office.
The messages between two Jedi, known as J#CH0ZN1 and J#0B1FKS, reveal a relationship that has been going on for many months. It is unknown whether the rest of the Order were aware of this relationship, and whether or not they approve.
