“See, that right there, calling me Alex. Do you understand that you keep using my name and I have no idea about yours.”
The pink blush creeping up the blonde’s face was enough for Alex to decide, once and for all, that he does like the guy. And what he says next solidifies the decision.
“Henry. My name is Henry Fox. I’m sorry, you’re right, that was rude. I’ve heard some of the patrons use your name and I didn’t think to offer mine.” The blush has crept all the way up his face and the shy grin is making way for something a little more sure.
“Well, hello Henry! It’s nice to meet you, Alex Claremont-Diaz at your service. Is there anything I, your friendly neighborhood assistant librarian, can help you with this fine evening?” Alex is being happily ridiculous. If that’s what it takes to keep those blue eyes on him and the pink hue on Henry’s face, then that’s what Alex will do.

“If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were trying to sully my honor there, cowboy…” Henry reaches one hand up, letting his middle finger trace his cheekbone. “…Steal my virtue, even.” His tone is as teasing and as flirtatious as he thinks he can manage.
He’s taking a page out of his romance novel, his confidence coming back to him in an unpredictable wave. That’s how it seems to operate, ebbing and flowing against Henry’s will. He tries to ride it as it crashes to shore.
Alex smiles, eyes shimmering with playfulness. “Promise I’m a gentleman, darlin’.” His calloused hands creep underneath Henry’s shirt, fingertips pressing into perfectly soft skin. He’s closer now, lips inches from Henry’s ear, “Unless you’d rather I wasn’t.”
Henry Mountchristen is left alone for the first time in his life.
Alex Claremont-Diaz is a cowboy that shows up and points a gun at his head.

It starts, like so many things in Alex’s life, with a list.
A list, a prince, an NDA, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and a night better than any of the fantasies that preceded it. No consequences. That was the whole point.
