Sighing he exits the page and keeps on scrolling. Nothing that is open catches his interest and the rest are closed. He's wondering how stale celery would taste dipped in pickle juice when his eyes land on Irina's Kitchen once more.
There's a phone number under the address. Shane bites his lower lip and wonders if he should call.
A woman with an accented voice picks up after the 5th ring.
“Hello?”
“Uh, hey, are you guys still open?”

What if Shane never got injured?
What if Ilya decided to finally take a step back?
What if the 5th best player of MLH was suddenly spotted hanging out hockey's golden boy Shane Hollander?

Ilya is aware of Sebastian Hawthorne like he's aware of all the top 10 players of the league. Though he knows no one can come close to him and Hollander, he still likes to keep an eye out for them.
Hawthorne, or as his teammates call him, Hawk, joined the Toronto Guardians during his Rookie season and has been there for the past six seasons. He's the assistant captain.
“It's like he’s already seen the play unfold five seconds ahead,” Shane had once complained to Ilya over the phone after a particularly nasty loss against the Guardians some seasons back. Ilya then got the impression that Shane didn't like him either.
So imagine his surprise when the picture of Hollander and Hawk shows up on his feed: laughing and practically having the time of their lives while leaving a high-end bakery.

“Hollander,” Ilya sighs and comes to sit next to him. “We can't be more. This is all you get.”
Shane really tries not to get mad, because yes he understands. This is all he gets.
“Yeah, because it's not that it's a guy that is the problem, it's me right?”
Ilya frowns. “What the fuck are you talking about?”
“You had no problem letting him be all over you today,” Shane is aware of how jealous he sounds. He doesn't care. If this is the last conversation they'll be having, he needs to make sure he says everything.
Or, what if Ilya thought Shane was going to bring Rose to the All Stars Game so he brought Svetlana and Sasha with him?

"Can't believe that's the reason he got re-assigned. Poor Feller."
Shane halts, hand glued to the handle, as he eavesdrops on the conversation.
"Poor Feller?" he hears Marleau snorting: "We told him the second day that he should've kept a low profile. But he didn't listen and went around asking about Hollander—Like Rozanov wouldn't notice. Like that man doesn't have eyes and ears everywhere."
He laughs, again, low and rumbling. St-Simon taps the tip of his shoe on the floor.
"Such a stupid choice, going against him," he finally declares: "Everybody knows Hollander is Rozanov's."
Shane feels his fingers tingling.

Or the one where everybody moves to the side and lowers their voices when the Chief Financial Officer walks the corridors of the company Shane works at. Too bad Shane Hollander's job consists of working with him, fighting over funding every other day. Too bad the man is Ilya Rozanov, the most insufferable person Shane has ever met.
(Too bad Ilya Rozanov seems to be obsessed with him and loves to make his life miserable. Kind of.)
