MAYBE IM CRAZY.
I mean lets be honest I definitely am. But I think I may have cracked the code on something absolutely INSANE.
Does anyone else remember that instagram account that used to post all those aesthetic mlm pictures of a random couple? @forposterity105? I was looking back through their feed because there was a photo I wanted to add to a Pinterest board (don't ask) and I realized that there was some stuff that looked a little bit familiar. It took me a while to work it out, but I think there's a chance that J and L might be Hollanov.
And if that's true, that means this whole thing goes back A LOT further than 2017. Like I can do a deep dive if anyone is actually interested, but I lowkey feel like I may have busted this case WIDE OPEN.

He’s also completely on board with the need to keep their relationship out of the press to avoid ruffling any feathers at the MHL commissioner’s office.
There’s only one problem with Shane’s boyfriend. He’s not Ilya Rozanov.
(Canon divergence where Ilya and Shane do separate photo shoots pre-rookie season and never hook up. Somehow. So then Shane has a “normal” dating life.)

“Who are you talking to?” Sveta is looking with a raised eyebrow, at Ilya’s delighted face.
“Ah, I am talking to my catfish.”
“What do you mean, your catfish?” Ilya angles the phone so Sveta can see the shirtless picture on the screen.
“This guy is pretending to be Shane Hollander on Grindr. It’s pretty funny. He’s cropped the face out, but he’s using pictures from the billboard next to my apartment.”
Or: Ilya Rozanov is sure he's being catfished- why would the real Shane Hollander be on Grindr, talking to random university of Ottawa students? But the more he talks to Wayne, the more he starts to like him, and the more he wishes Wayne would just come clean so they can finally be together.

Ilya widens his eyes, moves his hands in an impatient “get on with it” motion. He has the urge to say it for him, end both their misery. Shane blinks rapidly a few times, takes another deep breath. “I want to stop,” he says simply.
Ilya lets out one humorless laugh, “Stop what?”
Shane ignores him. “At the All Star Game, I told you I liked you. And you said about Russia and your family. And I looked some things up. I get it. I get it better now. I know we can’t but I can’t stop wanting to be…more. Unless we stop.”

Shane just wants to be friends and Ilya is, like, fine with that or whatever

Rozanov made a dismissive noise. “No, no, I will pick you up. Send me your address.”
“I’m not giving you my home address.”
“Why not!”
“Because you’ll probably post it on social media to psych me out before our next game.”
That made Rozanov laugh. “It is good idea,” he said. Stopped laughing. Started again. Blew out a breath like he had to get himself together. “I might do this to you,” he allowed, “but you have nice boyfriend living with you now. I would not do this to him. You are safe.”
In which Ilya Rozanov adopts himself into Scott and Kip's household and refuses to leave. Kip finds this very sweet. Scott is going to kill him.
