"Blue!" He says with a wide smile on his face.

Summary
When Al-Haitham stands, the legs of his chair scrape against the floorboards, the sound so jarring that it stops Kaveh in his agitated pacing for a moment. “After all this time,” he says slowly, walking towards Kaveh in even paces, “you still think I am closer related to a machine than to other living, breathing humans.”
With his shoulder blades rubbing uncomfortably against the bookshelf, Kaveh says, “You are severely lacking in empathy, that much I can assure you of. It’s not hard to take it one step further and assume that most human feelings remain a mystery to you.”
This time, when Al-Haitham speaks, his voice has a gravelly quality to it. It’s strained, stretched thin like the string of a bow pulled taut, close to snapping in half. “Can I, in return, assume then, that you think me incapable of feeling?”
“Not incapable, no. It’s rather that you choose not to care how people react to you.”
“If you think I do not care what you think of me, then I must have been doing something wrong all this time,” Al-Haitham says, sharp at the edges.
Kaveh and Al-Haitham break up. Al-Haitham offers to help Kaveh find a new roommate.

People enter Al-Haitham’s life, and then they leave. That is just the way it is: first it was his parents, and then it was his grandmother, and soon enough, it will be Kaveh. He's already set to have a future that other people could only dream of brushing with their fingers.
There are much greater things than Al-Haitham in Kaveh's destiny.
Sometimes all it takes is ten years.

Summary
The air in the house feels especially stilted, like a sentence left hanging. Or maybe it's just him that's been left hanging. He debates going to bed early and just sleeping the rest of his birthday away, but for some reason he stays up, keeping silent vigil.
It reminds him of the birthdays right after their thesis fell apart— and before that, the birthdays after the death of his grandmother. He realizes, belatedly, that the only times he's spent his birthday alone have been after the loss of those closest to him.
---
In which Kaveh's birthday gift to Alhaitham is a week with the house to himself.

Summary
“I’ll always want to be your friend, Kaveh,” he says quietly.
“You’re not supposed to be in love with your friends, Al-Haitham,” Kaveh says.
Privately, in the quiet recesses of his mind, Al-Haitham had always figured that if he and Kaveh were to break up, then the world would end.
