Marinette Dupain-Cheng became the Guardian of the Chinese Miraculous at 14 years old, when Master Fu decided that she was ready.
He sent her to the League of Assassins to train her physical skills.
That was where she met Jason Todd, a boy a year older than her, her most equal opponent in almost every way.
She hated him, and he hated her.
Talia Al Ghul knew that they were enemies, and did nothing about it, instead forcing them to be sparring partners whenever Marinette was at the League.
The thing is, Marinette had good reason to hate Jason. He was a conceited dickwad who only thought of himself. He was hella hot, too, which really wasn’t fair. He was the one that gave her the scar on her cheek, the one that had been really hard to explain to her parents. The only thing she called him was JJ, because it drove him up the walls.
Jason Todd hated Marinette Dupain-Cheng with a passion. She thought she was better than everybody, and treated them as such. When she wasn’t asleep or training in her magic, she was giving him a glare scarier than he had ever seen before. He called her Marietta just to bug her, because it meant Ladybug in Catalan, a language they both spoke.

Marinette Wayne was 12 years old when she went to Ethiopia with her best friend Jason Todd, Jason never returning, and Marinette returning with severe memory loss, reaching back to age 4.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng was 12 years old when she was sent back to Paris to live with her parents, who had just been found alive in Tibet.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng was 19 year old when she went to Gotham for university (and to fix all the bad luck), and remembered her family.

Normally, a trip to Gotham wouldn’t be so bad (excluding the whole 'crime capital' part, of course). Unfortunately, Marinette has a father who doesn't know she exists in the form of an enigmatic billionaire and particularly nosy brothers who seemed to be incapable of letting her be.
Marinette had always known that Tom Dupain wasn’t her biological father. She’d never been told just who her real father was, but that had never really mattered to her. Tom had always been there for her, loving her as if he were his own. Marinette would later learn that Tom physically couldn’t have children, so perhaps that was why he’d been so willing to parent Sabine’s toddler when given the option.
“Maman…” Her mouth was dry as she swallowed. “What’s… what’s his name?”
“Oh,” Sabine smiled. “Bruce Wayne. We met… what was it? Sixteen years ago? Bit of a whirlwind romance, to be honest. This was a few years after he adopted his first son, mind you. But it was─… Marinette?"
Bruce Wayne... is her father.
