Summary
Eight months post revolution cases pile up more and more on the desk at the DPD; leaving officers and detectives alike exhausted and all together over it.
Needing a breath of fresh air, or atleast as fresh as central Detroit gets, Gavin steps out for a cigarette and a moment of peace. Much to his dismay he is joined by his the android he had reluctantly learned to accept as his partner. The RK900 with an inquiry on his lips that caught the seasoned detective off guard.
“May I try?” Nines spoke up before he could reconsider, giving a minute nod towards the desired cigarette. His voice was still calm as ever, smooth and even but it curved at the end with a pinch of something Gavin rarely heard from the other. Hesitancy.
+ Some extra art I made inspired by the fic :D

Summary
June 17th, 2030
It was supposed to be like any normal day for detective Reed and the RK900 model, just a simple follow up on a lead potentially linked to a robbery that took place a few days prior. That was until the suspect decided to make a break for the fire exit upon seeing the partners at his door.
A simple miscalculation was all it took. A missed foot placement, a mere 3 inches off was all it took for the RK900 to lose his footing on the lip of the apartment complex’s roof. A hard shove to his chest by the deviant he had been attempting to subdue was what broke the camels back. The RK900 was falling then, unable to grab onto anything to slow his descent.
A sickening crack sounded out into the night as a limp body made contact with the asphalt. The noise fell upon deaf ears, the RK900s systems flickering out momentarily as he was sprawled on the warm road below.
Effectively Nines gets an injury equivalent to severe concussion, requiring a few weeks of recovery before he will be cleared to work again. Lucky for him, Reed isn’t too opposed to staying by his side during the recovery process.
