Clyde Logan meets the Ophelia and her daughter at the local trunk-or-treat.
“ “Daisy, play the game by its rules,” her mother chided gently but was smiling. Clyde was done for.
“Ahh, yeah. You can keep the duck. I got extras. Came in a big bag,” and Clyde determinedly ignored the growing look of amusement on his brother’s face. Nothing was happening here. He was just being nice to a visitor and their kid.
“This is Ophelia, she’s just moved to town.” Clyde’s ex sister-in-law also had that delighted look on her face, which made Clyde duck his head a little and become very invested in making sure the candy in his bowl was nicely sorted, holding the bowl with his hand and stirred with his prosthetic one. Couldn’t have two packs of M&Ms touching each other.”

Ophelia and Clyde have their first real conversation and plan their "it's not a date" date.
"“Daisy Christina Wills, get in bed or I’m throwing out all your candy!”
”Ain’t never tellin’ you my full name,” Clyde observed dryly, rather certain that if Ophelia called out his name like that it would be his undoing. She called out her daughter’s name like his own Ma did and it produced much the same reaction - Clyde could hear Daisy’s little feet scrambling towards her bedroom.
“Don’t make me have to tell you when to go to bed then,” Ophelia teased with exasperation in her voice as she watched her daughter close the bedroom door. This was probably the best day that mother and daughter had enjoyed in a long time. Daisy had laughed and run about, playing games with Sadie and the other children. She had never been particularly religious but was glad that she’d listened to Moody about the trunk or treat - Daisy had made a few new friends and now she was talking to Clyde Logan."Series

"Though damned if her bright smile didn’t light up his day like the sun rising over the mountains, giving him butterflies in his stomach. Felt like bein' a kid on the playground, offering a cute girl a shiny pebble instead of a grown man - a combat vet no less! - walking around to open the door for her. Of course it didn’t help that Ophelia looked like something out of an art show, with her red hair done in one of those fancy braids that Mellie and Sadie had told him the name of but Clyde couldn’t ever remember. The kind where it was gathered up into lotsa little bits goin’ down, and she was wearing a green sweater dress that made her look like a damn feast and he was a starving man."

"“Clyde lets me get as much cake as I want,” Daisy protested as her mother blocked her another attempt to raid the dessert station.
“Believe me, Clyde and I having conversations about that,” Ophelia chuckled and resorted to physically putting her hands on the girl's shoulders and rotating her towards main courses. “Get some of those green beans.”

"He had the ring picked out. He’d saved up a whole six months worth of his income cause that’s what Daddy’d said you were supposed to do, then he’d spent several hours at the local jewelry shop cause it had to be right. Clyde still wasn’t sure if it was, if he was being honest but he couldn’t show Mellie yet. There was someone else whose opinion mattered a lot more, and who he had to ask first. And they were sitting at the end of a lake dock, trying to skip stones on the smooth water."

Clyde takes his family trick-or-treating.
"“Yeeesssss, I know,” Daisy might be a little older but she wasn’t any further impressed with Mom insistence on manners.
“Ahh, she’s got it. Go get ‘em, little duck.” Clyde’s broad hand gently nudged his duckie daughter forward. While Ophelia sat on the passenger seat of the golf cart, which Clyde moved forward every few houses, he stood at the end of every driveway to make sure their duckling made it to the front door and back safely. Ophelia had also been spared wearing an inflatable duck suit but had a bright yellow sweatshirt with ‘wings’ attached to the arms - mostly because Mama duck successfully pointed out that it would be hard to hold Daisy’s little brother in that thing."
