“Hm, reminiscing about old times?”
Her voice washes over him and his Hyde, like a waterfall to a dying man. Something in him almost wants to say sorry right there—to give up all of this fight that he's spent so long trying to defend.

Pugsley shot a hand to cover Eugene's mouth, genuine distress painting his features. A knock resounded through the moment of silence between them. Eugene reeled back, twisting around to find Ajax opening their door.

“They just showed up…” Pugsley started, trying not to shake as he spoke. “It was after I woke up from Iago tower—”
“Last year!” Eugene said, throwing his hands up into the air as if that would perfectly demonstrate his frustration (it did.)
“It's not like we were exactly close last year?” Pugsley cut in, and he knew it was a low blow with the way that guilt spread across Eugene's face. “I didnt know if I should have told you. I don't even want to be telling you now.”
“Why not?” Eugene said, rising from his own bed and coming to sit next to Pugsley
“'Cause you were still recovering from all of the shit with Tyler—”
Eugene let out a scoff of sorts
“It's true!” Pugsley said in his own defense, “I wasn't going to drop more shit onto you.”
Eugene sighed, resting his head on Pugsley's shoulder. He tried to ignore the way that it made his heart beat three times faster than it should have.

Summary
“Eugene” Pugsley said, and Eugene twisted his head away, somehow unable to lie to him while looking in his eyes. It wasn't like it was easy to talk about this shit. No one's ever really pressed Eugene to talk about his issues until Pugsley.
He felt cold fingers brush across his face and could barely process it when his face was gently turned back to face Pugsley. Now he really was red. Eugene danced around, looking him in the eyes, wanting to avoid the fact that he was freaking out over his best friend holding his face in his hand.
“Can you look at me? Please”
Eugene's face burned. His eyes slowly lifted up, and when he met the other boys, he could see that they were full of nothing but concern. No pity. Eugene tried to look down again, shame burning in his mind. Pugsley's hand stopped that thought before he could even fully act on it.
“What's wrong? Min kjære, talk to me.”
