Summary
It had taken months for them to get here. As much as they might have wanted to jump back into bed, no holds barred, both of them knew they needed time. Sure, they’d been together fifteen years, but they’d tried to kill each other for six, and even with the forgiveness that had been spoken between them, the trust that had once been placed in the other was nearly decimated. Both agreed it had to be built back up again, and they had to do it right. Neither of them could erase the past, though they both hoped beyond anything for a better future with the other in it.

Summary
There has to be a special place in hell for people who plan social events to last more than two hours.
Jack is sure there must be as he has to pull his attention back to the British Prime Minister who’s been talking his ear off for over thirty minutes. While he is eager to have some of the Royal Air Forces most decorated pilots come and run some drills with his new recruits, surely they don’t need to iron out all the details right this very second? Don’t they both need to be working the room? Not that Jack wants to have to talk to more people about the same shit over and over. Unfortunately, the second-in-command for the Overwatch Strike Team can’t make excuses to leave early from the victory party being thrown in their honor.

Summary
Jack knows he shouldn’t be drinking coffee so late at night. Even if he argued that the whiskey he mixed in canceled out the effects of the caffeine, he can feel the buzz of restlessness at the base of his skull. No more sleep will come to him tonight. To be honest, he hadn’t even gone to bed. The team had watched movies since they arrived back from the day’s mission and he’d simply dozed on the couch throughout most of them; several grandpa jokes had been thrown at him fondly as a result. Now, alone in the communal kitchen, he doesn’t regret taking that time to rest and relax, but it’s left him jumpy and unsettled. Perhaps worse, the old soldier isn’t sure how to get the energy out.
