Summary
Charles, a busy professor living alone and using a wheelchair, makes an impulse purchase of a high-end service companion: a custom made synthetic named Erik. His new android is shockingly close to human, and tries his best to meet all of Charles' needs - even the ones he doesn't want to admit. But Erik has a ticking clock built into his programming, one that becomes harder and harder to bear as he struggles with how to ask for what he wants.
