fang's favourite fics
there is a line between my recs and the fics that truly stick with me. this is where that line is defined, the ones i rattle in my head regularly, the ones that i still remember months after reading <3

Summary
Jonathan Sims, researcher at the Magnus Institute, is seeing a ghost. Of himself.
Of course, it’s not really him, no matter what secrets it knows, or how many arguments it brings up. So if it tells him to do something?Obviously, he’ll be doing the exact opposite.
(AKA: Jon is an idiot, past and future, but somewhere along the way it all cancels out.)
(Expect general spoilers for S4 and specifically, MAG 158.)

As punishment, Martin is given to a Fae named Jon.

Summary
Jon and Martin made to their Somewhere Else. A world similar enough to their own, except in this one, the Institute doesn't exist. And neither do they.
After three years spent in fear, despair, grief, and pain, in all senses of the word, it seems the powers aren't yet strong enough to make a full appearance just yet. So, in the meantime, they decide to settle down and start their new life in this new universe.
With his Academic knowledge, a career in education seemed like the right step to take for Jon.
Though, after his first job as a substitute teacher, he thinks he'd rather teach Dr. Elliot's Anatomy Class. At least they didn't bully him about his scars.

All on his own, Martin lives out the rest of his days as a miserable monster, cursed by his mother long ago. There is a way to break the curse, but Martin knows it's not possible, not for a beast like him. One day, he meets an incredibly strange man - who breaks into the castle of a witch?

Summary
Jon hadn’t anticipated just how quiet it would be at Daisy’s cottage. He definitely hadn’t anticipated how that quiet settles something inside of him, like balm on an injury he didn’t know he had. He’d thought the lack of human presence would make him more aware of the loss still sitting in the pit of his stomach, heavy and solid, but it’s … it’s nice to have the space to process things. To know that he’s currently alone by choice, not by happenstance, and that he has the freedom to just be. Jon lets the solitude envelop him like a weighted blanket, warm and comfortable and safe.
It’s a few days later when he first meets the man who pets the cows.
.
Following the loss of his grandmother, Jon takes a sabbatical and moves up to northern Scotland to stay in Daisy's cabin and study the religious culture of the village near it. There, he meets Martin, his apparent and unwanted neighbor who makes odd jokes and seems to exist solely to ruin Jon's attempts at finally getting some peace and quiet. But as Jon spends more time with Martin, he begins to warm up to him and, as time goes on, to fall in love with him.
It just takes him a bit to realize that the man he's fallen in love with is a god.

Summary
“It’s a preexisting condition,” Jon explains, sipping more bitter tea. “I sort of got—hm. You know Spiderman?”
Tim raises an eyebrow.
“Heard of him, yeah.”
Jon nods, studying his tea.
“It’s sort of like that,” he says. “A spider killed and ate me when I was a child, and now I can’t stay dead.”
