Alicia pulled a face. Gustave? Handsome? No. Gustave was ridiculous. Maman arched her brow. Alicia scribbled another note, underlining it for emphasis. He was family. He was not handsome.

“I like it here,” Alicia whispers, breath tickling against her skin. “It’s not so….” Her brow furrows as she searches for the word. “Dead. It’s good.”
Neither Clea nor Verso had ever shown much interest in her glasshouse. Alicia frequents the space religiously, listening as she speaks of the different plants, settling on her lap when Aline paints. She is at peace amongst the green.
