Summary
After a considerate stretch of silence, she speaks up.
“It must’ve been a mob.”
The guard looks at her, rapidly blinking his eyes in confusion.
“A mob?”
She brushes the dust off her pants as she stands up, merely shrugging his tone off.
“Yep. Maybe a rabid one. Something like that. Oh, or maybe a new mob we don’t know about yet!”
This earns her an unsure stare. “Lady Grox, with all due respect, I don’t think any normal mob could ever be capable of doing such a thing!” He presses, pointing to the bloody mess of guts behind her.

The first time it happens, Grox blames it on the mobs. The second time, she excuses it as a casualty.
By the third time, half her guards are gone. But instead of being scared, Grox waits, expectant, abnormally eager to get caught by the lurking presence that has been silently haunting her castle for weeks – and leaving the halls stained with the guts of her villagers.
