Summary:

COX SLUT: a self-portrait through still life.

A realistically rendered acrylic painting comprising symbolic inanimate objects, dedicated to the life and career of Scottish actor Brian Cox—who recently celebrated his 80th birthday!

Created as a collection treat for Doodle 4 Doodle: Spring 2026.

Inspired by several Creator’s Choice of M- or E-Rated Doodle tags, namely Object: Lingerie / BDSM Collar / Sex Toy Not Currently Being Worn/Used.

I’ve been envisaging a fannish still life in his honor for quite some time. I previously completed a similar work in another fandom a few years ago, and since becoming entrenched in Succession I’ve been itching to try another.

I actually started preparatory work on this specific arrangement earlier this spring, including reference photography and surface prep. I had vague ideas of finishing it by Brian’s birthday. However, I had not made much headway yet.

Thankfully, though, soon thereafter the Spring 2026 round of Doodle 4 Doodle was announced, and nominations started pouring in, including the very inspiring:

  • Object: (A) Piece(s) of Lingerie Not Currently Being Worn (CCoMoED)
  • Object: A BDSM Collar Not Currently Being Worn (CCoMoED)
  • Object: A Sex Toy Not Currently Being Used (CCoMoED)

The timeline reinvigorated my motivation to tackle this piece. It felt like the perfect opportunity to dedicate the whole month of June to the artist’s love of Cox.

Seriously though, I really embraced that exceeds the minimum requirement option with this piece. It ended up being among the most technically ambitious paintings that I have undertaken to date. Rather fitting to celebrate a career of such magnitude, I say!

In addition to Brian’s honor, of course, I primarily created this artwork for myself; to indulge in my life’s unique intersection of fandom, sexuality, and creativity. Thank you again to this event for providing me the venue in which to do so. For anyone else stopping by, I hope that you enjoy it too!
