Noon
Yongen-Jaya, Café Leblanc
Ren smiled, having found himself in the familiar locale of Leblanc’s attic after a hellish month. All of his Thieves in one location, and even Goro looked like he’s fine to be there for once. Everyone was gathered around that dinky little table in the center of the attic, with Goro and Sumire off to the side on that well-loved couch, the redhead currently curled into a semi-ball, her head on Goro’s lap. Goro was slumped backwards, eyes closed and face towards the ceiling. It's a visual that’s gentle enough to make Ren forget the blood on his rival’s hands.
Ren thought it was very, very cute that their outfits matched throughout the summer break and wasn’t sure if it was Sumire or Goro who coordinated that. Sumire in her white, off-the-shoulder top, sky blue skirt and matching ribbon, all with black accents. Goro in his white shirt, sky blue jacket and black pants.
‘God, that’s adorable…’ Ren grinned, looking away from the two of them to focus back on the Thieves at the table.
“Anyways.” Ann began, one of her arms draped around Futaba. “It looks like no one outside of us Thieves knows what happened at the Tokyo radio tower, just like last time.”
“Man, it kinda sucks though.” Ryuji nodded. “Considerin’ it was our asses on the line n’all…”
“Patrolling society from the shadows, slaying evil in secret?” Yusuke nodded, his expression serene. “I admit it sounds rather alluring.”
“Well yeah, but like… Don’t any of you all want recognition once in a while, too?” Ryuji looked around at the group. “Y’know, like… fangirls and stuff?”
“I’m good.” Shiho rolled her eyes.
“I’ve had my fair share of fangirls, Ryuji.” Huffed Goro from the side. “I am quite content to not deal with that any longer.”
“Whatever helps you sleep at night, Gray!” Futaba chirped, snuggled between Ann and Shiho.
Ren looked around the group, noticing Makoto and Haru giving Ryuji a fairly considerable side-eye. He grinned. “OMG, it’s Ryujiii!” He waves his hands, putting on an exaggeratedly shrill voice.
“Not you, man!” Ryuji laughed. “And your actin’s awful!”
“Iunno, I think Senpai managed to capture the essence of ‘annoying fangirl’ pretty well there…” Mumbled Sumire from the couch, eliciting a snort of amusement from Goro.
Haru nodded, smiling happily. “Still, we made all sorts of unforgettable memories. And some I wish I could forget—”
“I said sorry!” Sumire whined, burying her face in Goro’s stomach. Goro cleared his throat awkwardly, a light blush on his cheeks.
“—I couldn’t have asked for anything more.” Haru concluded.
“Same here.” Sophia commented from Ren’s phone. “It was a new experience at every turn. It was the best.”
Makoto nodded with a hum. “And we can rest easy knowing that we did everything we could, and all the loose ends are getting tied up.”
“Man, Gramps could have helped to turn this party up, yeah?” Ryuji grinned widely.
“Amusing Ryuji, you originally hated Hasegawa’s guts.” Goro chuckled, and Ren can see he’s now carding his fingers through Sumire’s hair.
“Yeah, but he’s cool now.” Ryuji grinned, scratching his chest.
“I bet he’d make a comment about being too busy with Owada to join in on the celebration.” Ann shrugged.
“So, we’re all partyin’ while Zenkichi’s still bustin’ his buns on the case?” Futaba frowned. “I’m feeling kinda guilty.”
“Nah, don’t.” Shiho chuckled. “It’s his job.”
“Indeed.” Goro snorted. “It is, quite literally, his job to make sure that reprehensible man is put away.”
“Maybe you’re feeling guilty because school is starting up soon and—”
“Pleaaaaaaase Mako, don’t remind me.” Ryuji shook his head, cutting the brunette off.
Makoto and Haru simultaneously folded their arms, the former leveling a glare at Ryuji.
“A-Anyways!” Ryuji shrunk from their gazes before looking at Ren. “When are you headin’ back to Inaba, Renren?”
Ren sighed, dropping the front legs of his chair back onto the floor. “Tomorrow, on the 8 PM train. Which means I’ll be here until the end of the day.” When the others looked at him with sad expressions, he held out his palms. “Hey, hey. I’ll be back before you guys know it. Winter break sound good?
Nothing but agreements. Ren grinned happily. Time to just relax and enjoy the rest of the night.
Night
Velvet Room
Ren’s eyes fluttered open as he felt an all-too-familiar hard surface underneath him. He sat up slowly, blinking once, then twice. He allowed a small grin to grow on his face at the sight of his attendant, and he swung his legs over to stand up. “Hey there, Lav. Come here to congratulate me on a job well done?” He asked wryly, moving towards the exit of the cell door, leaning up against it as he pushed his mask up to rest on his hair.
“In a manner, yes.” Lavenza nodded. “There is… another matter in which I wished to speak to you about, Trickster.”
Ren blinked before his grin widened a bit. “There’s not another therapist about to rewrite reality out there, right?” He tilted his head, though his left hand flexed absently. “… What’s up?”
“No, nothing like that, thankfully. There is, however, something my elder siblings would like to ask of you.” Lavenza explained. “Now, I know you have already done so much, Trickster, but they believe you can assist with something related to their Guests…” She paused. “You need not accept, should you wish not to.”
“‘Guests’ being… people like me and Goro?” Ren asked quietly, pushing himself up straight and Lavenza nodded. “Other Persona-users, you mean.” He furrowed his brows, sliding his hands into his pockets, rocking on his heels. “… What can I assist them with? Or I guess… What will I be assisting them with?” He asked with a slight smirk.
“Other Wild Cards, yes.” Lavenza nodded again, a small smile on her face. “I… believe it would be best for them to explain, then.”
Ren cocked his head to the side, and he stepped out of the cell, glancing around. “Well, who am I to keep them waiting? Where are these siblings of yours? Off practicing their skills on helpless infiltration tools?” He asked, shooting Lavenza a sly look.
Lavenza pouted at Ren before she sighed. “Brother, Sister? The floor is yours.” She bowed and turned towards the other two figures.
A young woman and man stood near Igor’s desk, looking like a… flight attendant and bellhop. All righty then.
“Greetings, Trickster!” The woman began, her voice chipper and friendly. “My name is Elizabeth, my younger brother is Theodore.”
“You can call me Theo, should you wish.” Theodore said, giving a small bow.
Ren blinked. Once. Twice. Then his signature smirk that Ann was always telling he had slipped onto his face. He strode forward, bowing dramatically at the waist, one arm thrown out to the side. “I’m known as Joker, the fearless and charming leader of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. You call me Trickster, but you two, in particular, may simply call me ‘Ren’.” He winked coyly. “I have to say, you two are practically dashing. You say your names are Theodore and Elizabeth, but would you mind if I simply stick to ‘Beautiful’ and ‘Handsome’?”
“… I did warn both of you about my Trickster beforehand.” Lavenza sighed with mild exasperation, but her tone and expression is fond. “Trickster, please.”
“I wasn’t aware I’m not allowed to flirt, Lav.” Ren replied, keeping his eyes on Theodore and Elizabeth. “You can’t drop two models in front of me and expect me not to play the game. Especially when the game is looking oh so good~”
Theodore blinked, looking at Lavenza. “Is… Is he always like this?”
“Unfortunately, yes.” Lavenza nodded. “He is naturally like this. I worry for your Guests in this case.”
“Ah, I have learned about this sort of behavior on my travels,” Elizabeth nodded with a confident smile. “You proudly wear the title of ‘womanizer,’ correct? Or so I have observed that is what people with such charms are referred to as.”
“I believe Margaret would use the term ‘manwhore’.” Lavenza deadpanned. “Though, he seemed to control himself around his teammates… slightly more.”
Ren’s smirk falters a bit at the title, and he straightens back up, reaching up to tug on his bangs. “I wouldn’t put such a crude title on someone with such skills as mine.” He reasoned wryly. “But… I suppose you’re right. After all, when you’ve got it… you’ve got it.” He said slyly, sliding his hands into his pockets. “So Lav here tells me you two have some Guests that need a dashing rogue to help them out?”
“This story begins in 1999… On a certain bridge connecting to the city of Iwatodai,” said Elizabeth with almost a wistful tone of nostalgia. “It was there that in this time, a boy known as Makoto Yuki passed, and one Kotone Shiomi lived.”
“And then again, in 2010,” Theodore continued. “This girl, Shiomi, gave her life to ensure that the rest of humanity could continue theirs… Even now, she serves as the last defense between humanity’s will for their own destruction and the fulfillment of such a wish.”
Ren is silent for a moment, processing the information. “… Doesn’t sound all that good.”
Lavenza kicked him in the shin.
He winced before continuing. “And what would you have me do? What could I do? Do you… want me to prevent this somehow? Shoot another being with god-like powers in the face?” He cracked a weary smile. “I’d like to know what exactly my goal should be regarding Shiomi and Yuki.”
“That is not per se our solution… but it may not per se not be a solution.” Elizabeth curiously rubbed her chin. “Our sister has spoken highly of you not only as a Wild Card, but a Trickster as well. One who does not let even the chains of fate bind them or their allies. Such a defiant spirit may be able to do the impossible and save the world without the need of a sacrifice.”
Theodore gave his sister a light tap on the shoulder. “He did ask what specifically we wanted him to do.”
“Elizabeth, you’re doing it again.” Lavenza nodded.
“Oh! Yes, I’m sorry. I have a habit of beating around the bush sometimes.”
Both Lavenza and Theodore gave her a side eye. Ren blinked, getting the distinct feeling this is not an uncommon occurrence.
“You see, in your time, Makoto Yuki perished in 1999 and Kotone Shiomi made an ultimate sacrifice in 2010. However, there exists another time where Shiomi died in 1999 and Yuki persisted to save humanity in 2010. What has piqued our curiosity is a third outcome… A reality where neither Yuki nor Shiomi have died in 1999.”
“Such a reality is unpredictable… Its outcome is as versatile and malleable as clay.” Theodore straightened himself and looked Ren in the eyes with an almost weary expression. “One could say… Such a reality itself is a wild card. A reality that we could guide the outcome of with the right influence.”
“To be blunt, we want you to travel to such a reality and guide its course so that neither Makoto Yuki nor Kotone Shiomi need to give up their lives to save humanity.” Elizabeth put her hands on her hips and looked around with a proud smile. “I think that sums it up in simple terms, no?”
Ren remained silent for a long time, considering his options. His eyes flickered from Elizabeth, to Theodore, to Lavenza, then finally back to Elizabeth. “… When do I leave?” He asked, lips curling into a grin.
“Ah! So proactive!” Elizabeth gave a tiny clap. “Sister, your guest does not disappoint!”
“He is truly the world’s greatest man.” Lavenza chuckled, smiling warmly. “I believe in this case, once you leave the Velvet Room you should find yourself on the way to the same school as my siblings’ Guests.”
“I’m not going to repeat my second year, right?” Ren deadpanned. “I really do not want to do that.”
Lavenza blinked. “You are currently in your third year, are you not?”
Ren nodded. “I’m just saying.” He spread his fingers. “I’d like to get called ‘senpai’ every now and then by someone who doesn’t blush at the slightest flirtatious remark.” He paused. “And by someone who isn’t being shadowed constantly by a walking red flag. A good-looking red flag, but a red flag nonetheless.”
“I believe we may need to discuss your ‘history’ as it will be nearly nine years in the past.” Lavenza nodded. “Brother, Sister, do you have ideas?”
“I’m assuming you’d have to make it as close to the real thing as possible, right?” Ren asked, glancing between Elizabeth and Theodore. “Otherwise the timeline could go… kaput?”
“That would be wisest!” Elizabeth nodded. “I think we might need to workshop ideas.” She paused. “That’s the correct term, Trickster?”
Ren chuckled. “Yeah, that’s right.” He nodded, grinning slyly.
This is going to be interesting.

Daytime
Paulownia Mall – Outside Velvet Room
Ren blinked, feeling as if he woke up from a pleasant dream. He blinked again, feeling his surroundings begin to sway and form around him. He took a step forward…
… and nearly face-planted as his legs almost gave out.
He threw out his hand, grasping at the closest thing to him, which happened to be a wall. He shook his head, bringing up his hand to rest it against his temple. He rolled his shoulders, then slowly pushed himself back up straight, looking around to see that he’s currently located in… some sort of shopping center?
He patted himself down, making sure all his personal items were on him. He felt the familiar outline of his phone and winced.
“Probably should keep that one hidden.” He mumbled wryly.
He continued to pat himself, only to pause once he felt something that he didn’t recognize. He reached into his jacket—which, wow, Elizabeth sure was thoughtful not sending him back in his summer fit—and pulled out… some sort of bookmark? It was the same color as the Velvet Room, Ren noticed, and he turned it over in his hand, looking it over.
“Interesting.” Ren murmured with a slight smile. “This is probably important I imagine.” He twirls it around his fingers before sliding it back into his jacket. “Now… Where the hell am I?” He asked, glancing around, only to pause when he turned around to see the Velvet Room. Or… rather, something close to it. It didn’t look like he remembered it. Not a prison door, but… something a lot more welcoming.
“Ah, I see…” He rolled his eyes. “They get a nice door. I get a jail cell.”
He furrowed his brows before walking up and grabbing the handle, giving it a tug.
Nothing.
He pursed his lips before pushing.
Nothing still.
He sighed heavily before closing his eyes and focusing. He felt the familiar weight of his Velvet key form in his hand and he opened his eyes, lifting the key to slide it into the lock. He tried turning it…
No dice.
“Okay.” Ren said, pulling the key out. He let the key vanish out of his palm before reaching up and knocking. “Hello? Your dashingly handsome Trickster is here to save the day!”
… Silence.
“Tough audience.” He mumbled, bringing his hand down. He reached up and tugged on his bangs. “… Alright. On my own, I suppose.”
“Didn’t the elder sibling say something about giving you a past? Perhaps it’d be best to learn that.” Raoul chided.
Ren paused at the sound of his other self’s voice. “Good point.” He nodded before looking around hesitantly, then pulled out his phone. “Let’s see. Lavenza would’ve been thoughtful, so she…” He nodded again. “The note app. Of course.”
Tapping into the app, he saw the latest note and opened it.
“Well? Don’t be afraid to share with the class.”
“My name is Ren Amamiya. I’m seventeen years old and enrolling at Gekkoukan High School as…” He trailed off before chuckling wryly. “As part of my probation. Two months ago I was arrested and charged for assault, and forced to move away from my hometown of Inaba.” He clicked his tongue. “Well, at least that much hasn’t changed.”
“Like you won’t enjoy playing into your role.” Raoul chuckled. “The Thieves may not have enjoyed the rumors surrounding you, but you relished playing the ‘bad guy’.”
“To an extent. And, let’s be honest…” Ren grinned. “Nothing Gekkoukan throws at me will be worse than Shujin, I’m sure. I doubt they have an egg for a principal and a predator for a coach.”
“Do you really wish to test that theory? What else is there?”
“Not much. Just my dorm address and…” He blinked before reaching into his back pocket and pulling out a small blue card. “… a card with access to my funds from Phantom Thieving.”
“How convenient.” Raoul drawled with a smirk. “Do we plan on crashing the stock market this early?”
“Not this early, no.” A beat. “Maybe later down the line. For shits and giggles.”
“Looking forward to it.”
Ren smiled and shook his head. “It also looks like Sophia isn't here, probably some strings Lavenza pulled and had her placed in one of the other Thieves' phones. My first day at Gekkoukan is on the sixth, but they’re expecting me to introduce myself at the dorm ‘as soon as possible’. That gives us five days to get situated. Shouldn’t push my luck… Unless—”
“Let’s not but say we did, yes? You are here to play the hero, not the villain.”
“Doesn’t mean I can’t have fun, no?”
“… a decent point, I’d say.”
Ren smirked. “How much do you think I should lean into my ‘delinquent tendencies’?”
“Mon Fou, tu devrais avancer avec prudence.”1 There was a pause. “With that being said… Offrez-leur un spectacle.”2
Ren grinned and slipped his phone into his pocket. He cracked his neck and flexed his fingers.
“It’s showtime.”
Afternoon
Iwatodai Dormitory
… This is the dorm. And it looks like a hotel. Hell it probably was a hotel.
Ren looked up at the towering dorm, wondering what exactly was in store for him inside. Especially for someone like ‘him’. A delinquent. A felon. A criminal.
…
This was going to be fun!
He had opted to do some quick shopping to ‘get with the times’ before showing up.
He kept his black blazer but opted for a black compression shirt, putting his build on full display quite shamelessly. He wore darker jeans than usual, leaning into a navy color rather than the soft blue he usually wore. And he swapped out his brown shoes for black ones. He’s going to go all in on this, which also included…
He lifted up his fake glasses, looking them over before folding them up and tucking them away.
… No masks.
At least, not that kind.
Taking a deep breath, Ren climbed the steps up to the dorm, rolling his shoulders and fixing his bag, which was filled with nothing but his old clothes and some items that he considered to be essential. Bathroom related things, mostly. Nothing exciting… yet. Everything else (whatever the hell that was) had been sent to the dorm beforehand… and he’s honestly really curious what the hell will be in his room in that case.
He reached the door and placed his palms on them, before pausing and reaching up to mess up his already messy hair. After that, he decided it was time to face the music.
He pushed open the doors, putting as much swagger and cockiness into the action as possibly could, and was… honestly surprised at what he saw.
The first floor of the dorm is spacious, to his immediate left was a counter, behind it is a desk with a computer at a table. On the right was a lounge area, a sofa and chairs surrounding a large coffee table with a TV nearby. Some sort of privacy partition up towards the back with a dining table surrounded by chairs and further back is a countertop. Towards the back left is a stairwell going up to the second floor.
He glanced around, looking for anyone. No one was here to greet him. How kind.
“Well.” Ren said aloud. “Guess there’s really only one thing to do.”
“Do I even want to ask?” Raoul sighed inside of Ren’s mind.
“You’re me, you should know.” Ren grinned before he walked over towards the couch, unceremoniously dropped his bag and flopped onto the couch, kicking up his feet and resting his hands behind his head. “Very comfortable. I could get used to this.”
“Kirijo-senpai? Sanada-senpai?” A female voice from the stairwell in the back.
After a few moments, a girl with brown hair and a pink cardigan walked down the stairs and stopped upon seeing Ren. She looked at him and blinked.
“Uhhh…” She blinked again. “Who are you?”
Ren blinked. Once. Twice. Then he grinned, putting every ounce of charm and charisma he had into it. “Well, hello to you, too, gorgeous.” He said, smoothly standing up to his feet and moving around the couch. “I wasn’t aware this dorm had models in it. I would’ve dressed more appropriately had I known.”
The girl frowned, placing her hands on her hips and just… stared at Ren. There was a small blush on her cheeks, but it’s counteracted by the frown and glare. She sighed, shaking her head. “This dorm is private…” She folded her arms. “So you’re here because…” She paused. “Oh wait. You’re that student Kirijo-senpai mentioned, aren’t you?”
“I much prefer the name ‘Ren’, but you’re welcome to call me anything you’d like.” Ren said suavely, taking a step closer, inclining his head at an angle that he knew would make the lights reflect in his eyes perfectly. “And, even if I wasn’t, this isn’t the first time I’ve decided to tread on private property. Though…” He looked her up and down without moving his head. “You are, without a doubt, one of the prettiest things I've had the pleasure of seeing on my many escapades.”
“Oh god, delinquent and a flirt. Great.” The brunette sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose and took a step back.
“You know that’s probably the nicest thing a girl has said to me?” Ren murmured wryly. “You’re worming your way right into this country boy’s heart, beautiful.” He tilted his head. “What’s your name, gorgeous? You know mine, it’s only fair I know what to call you. Unless you’d rather I stick with various petnames?”
The girl looked at Ren with annoyance. “It’s Takeba.” She frowned.
‘Why does that name sound familiar? Now that I think about it… Kirijo sounds familiar too.’ Ren wonders.
“Takeba…?” He leaned in with a raised eyebrow. “No given name? C’mon, beautiful, you know my given name—which you’re free to use, by the way—so I think it’s only fair I know yours, no?” He asked, flashing a quick grin. “What’s the worst I can do with a name? Aside from purring it out, of course~”
“You’re going to get slapped. Or have the police called on you, le Mat… Je ne sais pas trop lequel des deux est pire pour ton ego.”3
“So how about it?” Ren continued, eyes twinkling. “May I get a name to call the pretty girl? Or am I destined to sit and ponder what beautiful name you were given?”
Takeba’s frown deepened and she folded her arms defensively in front of herself. She sighed exasperatedly. “Yukari Takeba.” She narrowed her eyes. “Just call me Takeba.”
“Yukari Takeba…” Ren murmured, looking up in thought. “Yukari… Takeba… ” His eyes widened.
‘Hang on. Isn’t that…? Ann and Futaba talked about her, didn’t they?’
“That’s right, now that you bring it up. I believed Takeba was… Pink Argus?”
‘Holy. Shit.’ Ren thinks with a mental grin. ‘I’m dormmates with someone that’d make Futaba explode.’
“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Yuka-chan.” Ren said teasingly. “You wouldn’t happen to know what a guy has to do around here to get a room, do you? I think my stuff was sent here earlier but, ah…” He gestured to where he dropped his bag. “I still have some things I’d like to put up.”
She let out an even longer sigh. “Great, another one.” She rolled her eyes. “I don’t have access to the keys for the rooms, you’ll have to wait until Kirijo-senpai gets back, which would be…” She looked at the clock. “Soon-ish.” She nodded. “So you’ll just have to wait.” She motioned at the couch Ren was just sitting on. “The television gets a good amount of channels.”
“So we’ll be all alone until then?” Ren asked, smirk widening. “… A shame.” He said, pushing himself back up straight and looking around. “I usually like an audience.” He glanced around until his eyes landed on the kitchen and he sauntered on over to it. “You won’t mind if I help myself to this, do you?” He asked, looking through the door to the kitchen, only to pause.
The kitchen was completely covered in boxes, looking like it was in the process of being renovated or redecorated.
“What the… Do you all starve yourselves?” He shot a look over his shoulder at Yukari. “There’s nothing in this thing.”
Yukari shrugged. “I only moved into the dorm earlier in the month. I heard this place had a dorm mother before, but…” She looked at Ren. “It’s definitely… yeah.” She paused. “Sanada-senpai usually gets takeout. And Kirijo-senpai is…” She trailed off.
“This is…” Ren shut the door, looking around helplessly at the kitchen. “This is… This is fucking pathetic!” He said with an incredulous laugh. “How am I supposed to bring girls back to this place if the kitchen is this… monstrosity?” He shook his head. “No, no. I cannot stand for this.” He pointed at Yukari. “Yuka-chan. You’re in charge of my things until I get back. I’m entrusting them to you, gorgeous, so don’t go peeking, unless you want to be questioned by any police that come by.”
“W-What!?” Yukari squawked. “B-But what about the boxes!?”
But Ren was striding past her. “I’ll be back soon~” He said, slipping out of the dorm and descending the stairs.
“You’re really set in stone about this, aren’t you? Dis donc, le Mat, tu vas donner une crise cardiaque à cette fille.”4
“And whoever is in charge of this dorm is going to give me one!” Ren reasoned, throwing up his hands. “Did you see that kitchen? Hideous!” He shook his head furiously.
Something had to be done about that kitchen, and it was going to be him that did it.
Evening
Iwatodai Dormitory
Ren pushed open the doors to the dorm carrying four bags of numerous groceries that he deemed fit for the dorm. It was quite a walk to the store and back, but nothing crazy. He glanced around the lounge, noticing that Yukari was sitting on the couch, his bag next to her feet. How nice of her.
He spotted two other people. A girl with strikingly red hair almost similar to Sumire’s, and a boy with hair similar to Sae’s. Huh. Kirijo and Sanada, then. He cleared his throat loudly. “Any help for the handsome boy at your door holding items for your fridge?”
Kirijo looked at Ren, raising an eyebrow. “Ah. Amamiya…” She nodded. “I am… surprised you are here this early. And…” She looked at the groceries. “You… bought groceries?”
“Well, someone had to.” Ren reasoned with a shake of his head. “Seriously, you run this place? It’s awful! Terrible, even! I thought I was messy, but you?” He whistled before walking over and plopping down a bag in Yukari’s lap. “Here, help me put these things up, will you, gorgeous?” He asked, flashing a sharp grin before walking towards the kitchen.
Yukari flailed at the sudden shift in weight. “W-What? HEY!”
Sanada covered his mouth, choking slightly. Ren caught a slight grin on the boy’s face… Ah, the choking is to hide laughter.
Kirijo blinked in clear surprise. “That is… not what I was expecting…” She looked at Yukari. “I… believe we should assist him in any case. Akihiko?”
“R-Right, sure.”
With the help of the three, Ren was able to make quick work of setting everything away. Once that was done, he spun around, clapping his hands together. “Alright, ground rules.” He said, smirking. “No one is allowed to do anything with this kitchen without my say so. I don’t know you, so I don’t trust you with anything that I will be putting in my mouth. If you manage to sneak by me and make something and I find it decent, then we might change things. Good? Great!” He turned to Kirijo. “You. I need my room.”
“I… Your room has already been prepared and someone will show you to it whenever you’re ready.” Kirijo took a deep breath and regained her composure. “Though, I must warn you of our ground rules as well, Amamiya. Adjusting to a new dorm may be difficult, so you will get leeway tonight, but a disrespectful and flippant attitude won’t be tolerated going forward.”
Ren shrugged. “Cool. Probably don’t care, but… Hey, you tried?” He grinned. “From where I’m from, you earn respect, it’s not given. Give me a reason to respect you, Kirijo, and I will. Until then? Don’t tell me what I can and can not do, mkay?”
Kirijo shot Ren a glare that could have frozen a volcano solid—wow, was she related to Makoto? She only gave one last deep, frustrated sigh before glancing at Akihiko.
“I suppose that will come in time, then… Tonight, Akihiko will show you to your room. If you have any requests or grievances, he is boarded on the same floor as you.”
Akihiko looked at Ren, then back to Kirijo. “So you brought that up, but ignored him saying we’re banned from the kitchen? Immediately after he showed up?”
Kirijo looked at Akihiko before she gave the tiniest of shrugs. “To be fair, Akihiko. Your cooking skills leave… much to be desired.”
Ren glanced at Akihiko, looking him up and down, but his eyes zeroed in on his hands, the boy having taken off his gloves briefly. “… You box?” He asked, pointing to his hands. “I’ve seen a few people wear similar gloves.”
Akihiko blinked before he grinned. “You box, too?”
Ren paused. “Something like that.” He said, turning away. “I was certainly throwing punches, if that counts.” He said wryly, walking over to his bag. “Thanks for looking after my stuff, Yuka-chan.” He turned around to shoot her a wink. “You… ah, didn’t peek inside did you?” He asked warily.
“I’m not some creep, you know.” Yukari frowned, giving a small gesture to Ren. “And if it’s all the same to you… Actually, it doesn’t have to be the same to you. Don’t push your stuff onto me.”
“Oh, well, sorry.” Ren said, rolling his eyes so hard they nearly fell out of his head. “I wasn’t aware I was in the presence of royalty. Shall I simply hand things off to your butlers, then?” He asked slyly, hoisting his bag over his shoulder.
“Technically, the royalty would be Mitsuru.” Akihiko chuckled.
“Akihiko.” Mitsuru folded her arms.
“And by the way, I wouldn’t blame you if you did peek. If there’s anyone you should creep on, it’s definitely me. I mean…” He gestured to himself. “Have you seen me?”
“Yeah, I have. Sorry, but not my type. Not in a million years.”
“It takes 1 billion years for coal to be compressed hard enough into diamonds. And I am a very patient man, Yuka-chan.” Ren purred, winking. “Nice to meet all of you. I would say I hope we get along, but…” He winced. “Well, my old roommates were…” He shrugged. “Not the greatest. Always seemed to avoid me. Don’t know why.”
“They’re lucky you’re gone, that’s what…” Yukari mumbled.
“Takeba!” Mitsuru sharply glared at her, again, with a look that could give Makoto a run for her money. “Not to the new student.”
Ren laughed, shaking his head. “Finally. Some bite.” He reasoned with a smirk. “Maybe this year won’t be totally miserable.” He turned to the stairs before pausing and glancing at Mitsuru. “By the way, how strict is the dress code at the school? I need to know how badly I’m going to be breaking it.”
“It’s uhh… Fairly lax.” Akihiko rubbed the back of his neck, shuffling as Mitsuru shot a sideways glance his way. “Basically for guys, keep the pants on.”
“Oh, is that all?” Ren smiled, bright and warm with a hidden undertone of mischief. “Great! There’s this black tank top I’ve just been dying to break in, and my old school nearly had my head for it a few dozen times.”
“Dozen?” Yukari mumbled with furrowed brows.
“That, uh, won’t be a problem will it?” Ren asked, glancing between Akihiko and Mitsuru—the latter of whom just covered her face with her hand. “I'm not asking because I care, I’m asking because I need to know how many girls will be fawning over me.” He perked up. “Oh, speaking of— What’s this place’s policy regarding visitors? Particularly of the female variety?”
“This dorm is private, Amamiya.” Mitsuru replied, folding her arms. “You’re only here due to your specific circumstances.”
“What she means is ‘no, absolutely not’.” Akihiko added.
Ren blinked before grinning again. “Oh, they told you about that, did they? Did they also tell you that they took off a few other charges? I'm pretty sure there was… trespassing, loitering, vandalism, and…” He looked up in thought. “I’m sure there’s a few others that I’m missing, but I thought I’d just warn you.” He reasoned, a fang peeking out. “As for the visitor's policy, I have a follow up question. When is lights out? Because if I can’t bring them here… I will… go to them. If you catch my drift~”
“Lights out is at 11 PM, as is the curfew. You will be expected to be both in this dorm and in your room when that time comes. Otherwise, I can’t promise that any of the patrolling officers will offer the same leeway that I would.”
“Oh.” Ren tilted his head. “That’s fine, then. I’ve spent more time avoiding officers than I can count. Once you figure out one, the rest are easy.” He snapped his fingers for a moment. “I’m assuming the doors will be locked, too? I need to know in case I need to bring my lockpick kit—” He paused. “… If I need to leave my room’s window unlocked so I can climb in.” He said, flashing a bright, totally innocent grin.
“… I’m sorry, Senpai, but if introductions are done here, I think I have something else in my room that needs attention. More important than… him.” Yukari turned away. “Anyway, welcome to Iwatodai, I guess.”
“Nice meeting you, Yuka-chan!” Ren called out as Yukari retreated up the stairs. “Look forward to seeing your pretty face around more!” He turned towards Akihiko and Mitsuru. “Anyway. My room? I am dead tired and feel like I’m about to pass out any second here.”
“Right, come on then.” Akihiko placed a hand on his shoulder, rolling his arm.
Ren raised an eyebrow before he did the same thing, rolling his arm. “Is this like some sort of initiation?” He asked curiously. “Because, I have to say, it’s kinda lame.”
Akihiko looked at Ren, blinking in confusion. “What?”
“Akihiko, I think he believes you intend to punch him.”
“Oh!” Akihiko laughed. “No, my shoulder’s a little sore. Anyways, c’mon Amamiya. I can grab your key and show you to your room.”
“Lead the way, boxy.” Ren said, gesturing forward.
Akihiko led Ren up the stairs and started walking down a hall with doors lining both walls. Ren took a second to look back at the staircase that kept going up another floor.
“Hey, what’s up there?” Ren asked, pointing his thumb behind him. “Girls’ floor, I imagine?”
“Yeah, third floor is for the girls, fifth floor leads to the roof. You don’t really need to worry about any of that though. We keep all the doors in this place locked up tight when we aren’t using them. Your room’s at the end of this hall, on the left. Right next to mine.”
“Joy.” Ren deadpanned. “What’s on the fourth floor, then? Storage?” He asked. If this place used to be a hotel, then it made sense a floor was dedicated to that.
“That’s just a little office for the Chairman of the school. He comes by and uses this place as a little study sometimes.” Akihiko paused. “Be warned. He likes puns. Terrible puns.” He sighed, shaking his head. “Other than that, the fourth floor is mostly a bunch of school records and all that. Like I said, nothing a guy like you really needs to worry about.” He made a beckoning gesture. “Now c’mon, if we get you settled in now, you can take all the time you need to do whatever you want to your room before lights out.”
“Bold of you to assume I’ll be spending my first night working out my room.” Ren said wryly. “I still have to map out the city, y’know. I don’t like not knowing where anything is. Call it paranoia.”
“If you ever need a guide, I’m sure that Takeba or I can show you around and tell you about the best places to go. Just be back before curfew and try not to break too many rules in the first week. Believe me, it’s not a fun sight.” Akihiko took a weary glance at the ceiling. “These walls have eyes, so I wouldn’t recommend trying any funny business.”
“You mean the security cameras?” Ren asked, pointing to one that was hidden at the end of the hall. “Yeah, I noticed. Just a fair warning. The one in my room is going to be gone as soon as I find it. Which, I’ll warn you again, won’t take very long.” He smiled and patted Akihiko on the shoulder. “Don’t worry, I’ll leave it in one piece. I’m great with tools.”
“Hmph.” A small smile tugged at the corner of Akihiko’s lips as he nodded and walked down the hall with Ren. “I like the moxie, but try not to give Mitsuru a headache, ‘kay? I know you’re new here and don’t know us, but she’s got a lot on her shoulders.” Akihiko stopped to give him a serious look in the eyes. “You don’t have to respect us, but give us a bit of leeway if you want some too. Like you said yourself, respect will come when there’s something to respect.”
“Sanada.” Ren said, his smile dropping. “I’m a felon. I punched a guy until he went down, then I kicked him in his skull until he went unconscious, all because he decided to try and force himself on a girl I knew. I haven’t been given respect in a long time, and I’ll be surprised if you guys give me any. Kirijo knew what she was doing when she brought in a guy with a record for, what I’m guessing to be ‘reformation’ or something… idiotic like that. I’m not a good guy, and you shouldn’t treat me like I am, it’ll be easier for your consciousness when I inevitably disappoint you.”
“Laying it on a bit thick, don’t you think, le Mat?”
“Look at it like this then, you don’t know me and I don’t know you. I know what you’ve done, but that’s about it. I can tell you’re a strong guy; a tough guy. I know someone with an attitude like yours. At the end of the day, no one in this dorm is going to care if you’re here because you kicked a guy while he was down or if you’re a Crown Prince. If you’re the kind of guy who’d help out someone just because they needed it, that’s good enough for my respect.” Akihiko patted Ren on the shoulder and smirked. “Can’t say that Takeba and Mitsuru will be so easy though. Like I said, you don’t have to respect them, but try to play nice.”
“… Well then. He certainly has a moral code that aligns with yours, no? Perhaps it won’t be so difficult to get along with them.”
Ren stared for a moment before nodding. “Fair enough, Sanada. But don't blame me when your expectations go to waste.” He paused before grinning. “And don’t worry about Takeba and Kirijo. In my experience, girls come around to me in no time, whether I play nice or not. But… A lot of girls I know love bad boys.”
“Heh, Mitsuru liking a bad boy? That’d be the day…” Akihiko shook his head and glanced over his shoulder. “Hope you get settled in just fine. If you need anything, I’ll be in my room. Like I said, the girls are on the third floor, so if I’m out, you can ask one of them. Unless you need anything else, I’ll leave you to it.”
“Nothing that comes to mind.” Ren replied, reaching up to run a hand through his hair. “Thanks… for the key.” He said, holding up the key to his room.
Akihiko blinked before patting his back pocket. “How did you…?”
Ren smirked. “Pleasure meeting you, Sanada.” He said, stepping back into his room. “Goodnight!” He said before shutting the door with a bang.
“… You truly are one of one, le Mat.” Raoul said fondly. “Just when I think you won’t be able to keep this charade up… You do that.”
“Please.” Ren huffed. “You know me, Raoul. Am I the type to ever do things halfway? I’m in this for the long run.”
“Naturally.”
Ren turned around to face his room. It’s… spacious. Not as spacious as the attic, of course, but… still fairly large. He spotted a box and he assumed that it was his things. Well…
Time to unpack.
04/06/2009
Late Evening
Tatsumi Port Island Monorail
Makoto Yuki yawned, leaning back into his seat on the monorail into Iwatodai.
“Your attention please. Today’s train schedule will be modified due to a rail switching malfunction. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
Makoto groaned, dragging a hand down his face. Terrific. He looked down at his MP3 player, furrowing his brows in annoyance. At least he still has a charge that’ll last the rest of the ride.
… for once Kotone is being quiet and—
… Oh she fell asleep. Yeah, that’d shut her up. They’ve still got… A few hours left due to the delay.
“Great… new school year and getting to the dorm probably near midnight.” Makoto groaned.
Well he can probably relax for a bit and close his eyes. Might as well—
“Hey. Heeeey!” Makoto felt something small and annoying poke his cheek as he was roused out of slumber. “You fell asleep! We’re almost there!”
Makoto flinched and flailed his arms, batting the hand currently in his face and glaring up at the grinning face looking down at him. “I’m up, I’m up…” He groaned, leaning up and shaking his head. “… you shouldn’t be standing while the train’s in motion. If the train stops, you’ll eat shit.”
“Oh no, whatever will I do?” Kotone grabbed the metal pole and started swinging back and forth on it. “When I fly out the window, say that I died in a really epic way at my funeral.”
“I think I’ll say you died tripping down a flight of stairs.” Makoto deadpanned, a small smirk on his face. “Like that one time you—”
His statement was cut off by a small, slender hand slamming over his mouth. He merely stared at the pouting face of Kotone, his visible eyebrow slowly rising. Kotone let go of the metal pole, pointing a finger angrily at him.
“Do not bring that up. I will—”
The train jolted to a stop and Kotone yelped as she fell to the side. Makoto instantly shot up, catching Kotone.
“One of these days, I won’t be there to catch you.” He sighed, shaking his head.
“Don’t worry, I can take a bump on my head or a scraped knee.” Kotone insisted with a beaming smile, standing herself up and straightening out her skirt. “I don't always need someone to save me! But, um, thanks for the save. I think I really was about to eat shit there.”
Makoto merely stared at Kotone and sighed. “Right, sure.” He nodded. “C’mon, let’s get going…” He motioned for Kotone to follow him and took a few steps before stopping and looking over his shoulder at her. “… Also, you never complain about me saving you.” He smirked before turning back and continuing to walk.
“I’m not complaining, it’s just letting you know that you don’t have to worry about me 24/7, that’s all.” Kotone let out a big yawn and rubbed her eyes. “Maybe it’s the new school jitters is all. Going to a new place is so exciting! And I can’t keep calm when it’s here of all places…”
“If you say so…” Makoto shrugged. “And I guess. Back to here.” He rubbed the back of his neck as the duo exited the train. “…” He patted his pockets. “Did I give you the map to the dorm?”
“Oh yeah, the little pamphlet thingy.” Kotone reached into her bag and plucked out a loose piece of folded paper. “Right here!”
Makoto took it from Kotone. If there’s one thing Makoto did not trust Kotone with—of which there are quite a few things—the main one is directions.
“Thanks.” He opened it. “Right… let’s see here…” He sighed. “Station’s pretty empty tonight…”
“Well, maybe it’s just…” A chill went up Kotone’s spine. “I dunno… Let’s just find the dorm.”
Makoto shot a glance at Kotone, inclining his head in a silent question before he nodded. “Right.”
As the duo walked, the clock in the station struck midnight and the air stilled, everything going quiet—and much to Makoto’s annoyance, his MP3 player is one such object—and the world is bathed in green light.
“… Shit, is it that late already?” Makoto grumbled, pulling his other headphone off his ear. He paused, looking at Kotone. “You good?”
“… Yeah, I just hate it sometimes.” Kotone looked up into the sky and Makoto did the same. A cool midnight black had been replaced with an unnatural verdant slathered overhead. “It’s like the world is sick or something.”
Makoto hummed in response. “Yeah…” He nodded. “Stick close to me in any case.”
Kotone silently nodded and adjusted the headphones around her neck. The world seemed to have a little pocket of time just to torment them. Sure, they had experienced it for years now, but the sight of a sickly green sky and crystal water running red like blood never got easier for Kotone to watch.
It took quite a while to reach their destination and…
Makoto blinked, his head tilting up. “Hey, Kotone?” He began quietly, cocking his head. “Do you see a guy climbing into a window?” He pointed up at the building.
“Huh?” Kotone replied, following where Makoto is pointing.
Makoto watched silently as a lean boy with messy hair effortlessly climbed up the side of the dorm building and slipped into a window without so much as a noise other than the soft click of the window shutting.
“Did… Did we just witness a B&E?” Makoto deadpanned.
“Isn’t that… also where we’re going to be staying?”
“Yup.” He sighed. “Well… shit.” He shook his head. “Think we could take him?” He paused. “Do not—” He glared at Kotone.
“Don’t know about you but I give a resounding yes.” Kotone shot out her sentence before Makoto could even finish his.
Makoto merely sighed with exasperation. Why does he even try with her? He walked up the stairs of the dorm, pushing the door open and glancing around. As expected, the lights are off and it’s quite difficult to see anything.
“Well, the lights aren’t on and I doubt no one’s home.”
“We know at least one other guy’s in the building, right?” Kotone narrowed her eyes and peered across the room. “But… these guys suck at welcomes if this is supposed to be one.”
“Kotone, it’s fucking midnight.” Makoto rolled his eyes. “They’re probably asleep and—”
“Welcome.” Said a voice to their left… far younger than one would expect to be in a dorm for high schoolers.
The duo turned and saw a… child, in a prison outfit and brilliantly blue eyes, far, far brighter than Makoto’s own. He’s standing behind the counter, arms propped against it. “You’re late, I’ve been waiting a long time.”
“Wow, lookie there.” Kotone smugly grinned. “A welcome, and it’s even midnight.”
“Shut it.” Makoto frowned at Kotone before looking back at the boy. “Delayed trains.” He shrugged.
“It’s alright. You’re both here now. That’s all that matters.” The boy nodded. “If you two wish to proceed, please sign your names here.” The mysterious child, who probably couldn’t be older than thirteen, gestured to the desk in front of them, where a contract and quill sit.
Makoto stared at the contract and quill before looking at Kotone. “Did you put something in my drink on the ride there, or are we both seeing this?”
“Nope, this is for real…” After a second of pondering, Kotone nodded her head. “Imma sign it.” Kotone ventured forward and took the quill in her hand. “It’s probably just the dorm agreement or something.”
Makoto opened his mouth to say something before he closed it as he watched Kotone sign the contract before he sighed and took the quill as she held it out to him and signed his own name.
“...Good.” The mysterious boy said with a nod once Makoto finished. He closed his eyes and when he opened them again, they seemed to be glowing bright blue. “Time is something no one can escape. It delivers us all to the same end. You can’t plug your ears or close your eyes.” The child continued, with a flick of his wrist the contract disappeared in a flash of fire. “And so, it begins...”
Followed by the boy. Makoto stared where the child just was, before looking to Kotone.
“So…” He began.
“Who’s there!?” A girl's voice cut through the silence.
Makoto immediately, almost subconsciously, moved in front of Kotone. They saw a shape next to the TV, but the darkness made it hard to make anything out aside from the silhouette and that it’s clearly a girl from the voice.
“How are you here at this hour?” She asked, the suspicion obvious in her voice. “Don’t tell me...” Her hand went towards something on her thigh, which could only really be one thing in this situation.
‘Oh for fuck’s!’
“Wait, wait, wait!” Kotone began. “Let’s just talk this out please?”
“Wait!” Another girl’s voice suddenly broke the standoff.
The lights flickered back on, as did Makoto’s MP3 player. He quickly paused it and looked at the two girls. One is a brunette in a pink cardigan, while the other is a… very severe-looking redhead. And both have red armbands and pistols holstered.
“The lights…” The brunette began.
The redhead looked at Makoto and then Kotone before nodding. “Ah, you two. I’m surprised you’re here this late.”
“Train got delayed!” Kotone replied, all the tension from earlier having left her.
“Ah yes, the accident…” The redhead nodded. “Apologies, I should have figured that would affect your arrival time.”
“S’fine.” Makoto shrugged.
“Who’re they?” The brunette looked at the redhead.
“Transfer students. It was decided at the last minute to assign the two of them here, but that’s only temporary.” The redhead explained. “In any case, I am Mitsuru Kirijo. I’m one of the students who live in this dorm.”
“Is it okay for them to be here?” The brunette asked Kirijo.
“That remains to be seen, Takeba.” Kirijo replied. “This is Yukari Takeba, a second-year like the both of you.”
“… Call me Takeba.” Takeba said, looking at them.
“Yuki Makoto.”
“Kotone Shiomi!”
Kirijo nodded. “In any case, it is late.” She held out a pair of keys to Takeba. “Takeba, do you mind showing them to their rooms?”
Before Takeba could say anything, a loud, annoyed groan entered Makoto’s ears, and the four all turned towards the stairs as one. Makoto blinked at the sight of a tall, rather attractive boy with messy black hair. He wore sweats and a black tank top that showed off fairly pretty muscles. He came stumbling down the steps like someone who just woke up… or was just being dramatic.
“What… in the fuck… is going on down here this late?” The boy asked wearily. “I thought we were supposed to be in our dorm rooms by 11pm and here you two are playing grabass!” He said, hitting the floor of the room with a thud. “And without me, at that! Seriously, no invitation? Talk about hypocrisy!”
“Amamiya!” Kirijo frowned.
Makoto looked at the newcomer, then to Kotone before he inclined his head slightly. Kotone grinned back at him. He gave a tiny nod.
“Nice acting, but we saw you climbing through a window just now.” Makoto deadpanned.
“Yeah!” Kotone nodded. “It was a pretty impressive bit of parkour you did!”
“… Amamiya…” Kirijo frowned, folding her arms and glaring at Amamiya.
Amamiya blinked. “You saw that? Shit, I’m getting sloppy, then.” He reasoned, tugging on his bangs before pausing and shooting a look at Kirijo. “I wouldn’t have to be sneaking in if someone hadn’t turned this place into a prison! Seriously. 11pm curfews? What are you, some sort of psycho!? How is a guy supposed to commit morally questionable crimes in the dead of night if he has to be taking nappies before midnight!? This… sucks!” He threw up his hands again.
‘Oh god, not another Drama Queen…’ Makoto bit the inside of his mouth.
“You know, I’m almost looking forward to being introduced at the school, and I hope to everything that I get placed in your class, Kirijo, I really, really do.” Amamiya continued, pointing towards Kirijo before he glanced at Makoto, then Kotone, seemingly realizing that they were there.
In a single second, his expression shifted.
“Well…” He said softly, running a hand through his hair before slipping between Takeba and Kirijo without so much as an ‘excuse me’ and shouldering Makoto out of the way. “Hello, beautiful.” He purred suavely, tone warm while dripping honey. “I wasn’t aware we were getting another model at this dorm. First Yuka-chan, now you? Looks like I've come to the right place.”
Makoto shot a glare at Amamiya and Kotone grinned.
“Says the model.” Kotone quipped back. “Look at those guns.” She clicked her tongue.
“Kotone…” Makoto sighed.
“Oh you’re just jealous I’m getting flirted with by the hottie, Makoto, shush.” Kotone giggled. “Or is it because you’re worried I’ll get distracted from your good looks?”
Amamiya’s grin seemed to widen. “They do look good don’t they?” He said, lifting an arm and flexing it and okay, Makoto can see where Kotone is coming from. “They feel even better.” He tossed her a wink. “I’m Ren, it’s a pleasure to meet a gorgeous girl like yourself, especially so late at night.” He gestured over his shoulder. “Want to come back to my room? I heard it was going to get cold tonight, and I’ve been told I can be quite warm.” He murmured slyly, stepping closer and curling a finger under Kotone’s chin.
Kotone jerked backwards from the touch, Makoto immediately moving to block.
“Hands off the merch, casanova.” Kotone said, fangs bared. “Gotta buy a girl dinner first before you get touchy.”
“Kotone.” Makoto glanced over his shoulder.
Kirijo stomped her heel. “Amamiya! Enough.”
Amamiya rolled his eyes. “God, is everyone a party killer around here?” He said, grinning still. “A little physical affection and all of a sudden Je suis l'ennemi public numéro un.5” He shook his head. “Also, casanova? Really? I consider that an insult, I’m much more charming than he could’ve ever wished to be.” He tilted his head. “Though that offer for dinner is rather tempting. I’m sure I can scrounge together some money for a pretty girl like yourself. Though…” He looked at Makoto, looking disinterested. “Is your arm candy included with that?”
Kotone looked from Amamiya to Makoto, tilting her head in thought. She tapped her chin. “I think he’s more of an entree than candy.” She nodded sagely.
“Easily.” Makoto added. “Probably more of a meal than a peacock.”
Amamiya smirked. “I agree, Kirijo is very flashy, isn’t she?” Without looking, Amamiya ducked under a swing that would’ve hit the back of his head from Kirijo.
“I was talking about you.” Makoto deadpanned before looking at Amamiya as he ducked down. “Huh, you can bend down pretty far. Don’t even need to get on your knees.”
Amamiya glanced at him curiously before his grin back in full force. “I take it back. I hope your arm candy is included in that offer, pretty girl.” He said with a bit of husk in his tone, sparing a brief look at Kotone. “I feel like I can have a lot of fun with you both.” He chuckled and leaned back. “And I don’t even know your names yet! This is a record for me. Usually I learn their name the morning after.”
Makoto covered his face with his hand, sighing. “Anyways, Takeba.” He looked past Amamiya. “Kirijo-senpai said you were going to show Kotone and I where our rooms are?”
“Oh come on, Makoto!” Kotone frowned. “Can’t we continue playing along~?”
“I’d like to live to see school in the morning.” Makoto replied. “Kirijo-senpai looks like she’s going to strangle the three of us.”
Amamiya cocked his head teasingly at Makoto. “I’m flattered, but I’m not that rough… Makoto.” He purred lowly. “I usually spend most of the night pleasuring my partner for the evening, hardly killer… Well, unless you want to count—”
“You talk a lot of game, which means you’ve got no experience whatsoever.” Makoto fired back, cutting Amamiya off. “Lay it on less thick and it’d be less obvious.”
But Amamiya just smirked. It was sharp, untamed, wild and full of sin. “I’m glad you think that. It will make proving you wrong all the better.” He murmured huskily. “I talk game because I’m good at it. I talk game because it’s what gets people going. Knowing what you’re getting into means you’re not walking into a minefield blindfolded. You’re walking into a minefield with blastproof boots and I’m guiding you.” He lifted a palm indifferently. “But, go ahead, don’t believe me. I think I’m already curling my finger towards… Kotone, was it? That’s a beautiful name, I’d like to hear it a bit more breathily, if you don’t mind.”
“Amamiya!” Kirijo barked out.
Amamiya rolled his eyes again. “Kirijo-killer is at it again.” He turned around. “Kirijo, why won’t you let me just have some fun? You yourself said that the best way for me to ‘reform’ is to simply… be. This is me being.”
“Because it is late.” Kirijo folded her arms. “Takeba, please show Yuki and Shiomi to their rooms.”
Makoto noticed Amamiya seemed to almost… shift his posture ever so slightly at Kirijo saying their names. But then his grin was back and he turned towards Kotone. “My room is on the second floor, last door at the end.” He whispered with a wink.
“Yuki, apologies, but your room is across from… that.” Kirijo said.
“Ooooooooh, they’re opposite one another~?”
Makoto let out a long, drawn-out sigh as his palm connected with his face.
The transfer out of this madhouse masquerading as a dorm can’t happen soon enough.
