„I‘m sorry to inform you, Mister Marlow. Your liver has significant scarring. The tests and blood work came back positive for cirrhosis.“
The world goes quiet for Elena.. Her father had cirrhosis.. the late stage for fatty liver disease.
She knew that her father wasn‘t the healthiest but she had never thought it was actually that bad. She and her mother had gotten more worried the past few months though, her father had been constantly forgetting things and he was more tired than usual. Her mother had finally gotten through to him to go to a doctor and Elena accompanied him.. She wishes he would have gotten convinced earlier, maybe the damage wouldn‘t be as severe then... Her heartbeat pounds so loud she can hear it, her heart is hammering so hard she can feel it in her throat.
„We have to consider a transplant as a treatment option, Sir“
Elena focuses back in on the conversation. She hadn‘t even noticed when she zoned out, getting lost in her own thoughts and worries. A transplant! There‘s a chance she could be a match! There‘s hope for her father, she could save him.
