Millennia before the rise of the Galactic Empire, during the height of the Old Republic, a power emerged beyond the boundaries of known space.
Far from the Core Worlds, near the Outer Rim, the Sith established an empire that remained isolated from the Republic for centuries. Its existence was not widely known until conflict brought it into galactic awareness.
The Sith were originally a species native to the world of Korriban. They were distinguished by red skin and pronounced facial features, and possessed a natural affinity for the Force. In time, the term “Sith” came to include not only the original species, later referred to as purebloods, but also those who adopted the Sith Code and the practices of the dark side.
That process began with the arrival of exiled Jedi. Cast out by the Republic and the Jedi Order, they discovered the Sith Empire and entered its hierarchy. Using the training they had received as Jedi, they rose to positions of influence and contributed to the Empire’s transformation.
The growing presence of humans within the Empire had lasting effects. They could interbreed with pureblood Sith, producing offspring with strong Force sensitivity, and over time such bloodlines became more common. Even so, status within the Empire remained tied primarily to power, while pureblood Sith retained cultural prestige despite their declining numbers.
At the center of the Empire stood the Sith Emperor, Darth Vitiate. A human of exceptional ability, he reshaped the Empire and ruled it for centuries. His continued reign was attributed to his mastery of the dark side, which extended his life beyond natural limits. Under his leadership, humans rose steadily in prominence within the Empire.
Sith society centered on hierarchy, strength, and control. At the lowest level were slaves, most often drawn from conquered populations. They were used for labor and held minimal status within the social order.
The Sacking of Coruscant was one of the Empire’s most significant military actions, demonstrating its ability to strike at the political center of the Republic. The conflict that followed concluded with a treaty negotiated by the Emperor, establishing a temporary peace between the two powers.
That peace remained unstable, and political tension persisted on both sides. The treaty marked not the end of conflict, but the beginning of a new and uncertain phase in relations between the Empire and the Republic.
