Chapter Text
“Its been four months,” green eyes stare down at the figure that was lying in the bed, the sound of the machines beeping in the background making his very large ears that stood straight up twitched. He sniffles, his nose scrunching up at the smells. Instead of smelling warm and comforting, which he had gotten use to in the last six months, the very room smelled harsh and cold, burning his nose with the overpowering smell of bleach and other cleaning supplies he had no name of.
He let out a whine, his small hands curling into fists, gripping the scratchy white blanket that covered the man that had become the most important person in his life. “Please…” Izuku whispers, feeling tears well up in his eyes, “Please wake up,” he begs, shoulders shaking, “Don’t leave me…”
Izuku Midoriya-Robertson had learn the hard truth young age of four was that not all people are created equal. It had been his first set back and sadly wouldn’t be his last and all because he wasn’t born with powers… because Izuku was born Quirkless. Quirks, or simply put powers, started popping up after an extraordinary child was born in Qing Qing City, radiating light from their body. No one knew what was causing it and soon following the rise of Quirks, aliens started falling down from the sky and portals to different dimensions, Hell itself, open up allowing demons to come through. They started making earth their home and before long, the supernatural became totally normal as 80% of the human population possessed some uncanny ability. The whole streets looked like scenes from a comic book but it also swirled with chaos and confusion. A new profession dominated everyone’s consciousness and the Age of Heroes had begun. It was everyone’s dream to become a hero… everyone wanted to be a hero. Izuku wanted to be a hero.
But the sad truth was, you needed not just a good Quirk to become a hero… you actually needed a Quirk to even think of being one. Or any sort of power, really. At least that was what everyone ever told me. His doctor, his teachers, his classmates…. his mom. His mom had been better than most, she had just apologize and told Izuku she wish things had been different… but still, even she thought that Izuku couldn’t be a hero. But Izuku had hope, because there has been three people who had been heroes without the need of a Quirk.
Mecha Man, a Legacy Hero station in America. For nearly fifty years, a Mecha Man has protected Los Angeles. Built by an ordinary civilian… someone who was like Izuku, Quirkless. Mecha Man Prime, Mecha Man Astral and Mecha Man Blue… they were Izuku’s inspiration, Izuku’s proof that a Quirkless person could be a hero… though whenever Izuku pointed them out to people, he was laughed by his classmates, all of them asking Izuku where he was going to get a giant mech to fight his battles...he learned quickly to not talk about Mecha Man… at least not around others who weren’t his mom.
Izuku never imagine that one day… that he would not only be rescue by Mecha Man… but would be adopted by them. That he would become Izuku’s papa.
Izuku was eight years old when his mom died. An accident they said, wrong place... wrong time. She had just been on her way home from a trip to a store when some villain had attacked..Endeavor had been called onto the scene… he didn’t seem to have been aware of the people surrounding him, watching as he took down the villain who was even giving him a hard time. He had thought the other heroes on scene would prioritize the rescue… but apparently the villain was some big shot and the other heroes had hope that if they were the ones to defeat him, the glory of it all will help them rise up in the ranks.
Instead, it resulted in a large number of civilian casualties, Izuku’s mother included.
Izuku had no other family in Japan, his father was in America, Las Angeles, ironically. He was sent there to live with him, not even being allowed to stay for the funeral even though he begged and pleaded. But unfortunately, the social worker didn’t care… she wanted to be done with his case and move on to something more important… someone with a Quirk. So he was shipped off… but he never even reached his father… never even saw the man.
His father didn’t want him… he didn’t want a Quirkless child.. a normie as the Americans called them. So instead he sold Izuku off to a group calling themselves The Institute. They went way back during the time of the Supernatural Rising at first capturing any person with a Quirk… any demon… any alien…. And seeing how and why they have these abilities...why now? Nowadays, they were control by a woman only known as The Director who was supposedly one of the first kids taken off the streets for having a tortoise Quirk. Though instead of trying to figure out how people got Quirks… they focus more on giving people who don’t have any powers a power of their own.
Izuku shivers, closing his eyes tightly. He remember days curled up in a cage… no a dog crate with a dark brown plastic roof over his head. Days of blood being drawn… days of being shocked when he didn’t do what he was told. Days of his lungs as he run until the world would narrow down into a little fuzzy tube and he couldn’t hold himself up any longer. Days of being under a scalpel… of a needle tearing into his flesh. A full year he was trapped there… his body slowly changing. There were other children there… Quirkless like him but… not anymore. Quirkless children were easy to get, especially as they only made up 20% of the population and they were more… hardy to the abuse they went through under the Director’s guiding blood stain hand. There had been two boys near him… one with rough scaly skin but just in patches, not all over. The other…had looked like a mistake… Extra fingers and toes, hardly any neck. Eyes huge and bulging and the hair on his head had been sparse… Izuku remember he didn’t last long… neither of them did.
Izuku changed too… he got sharper teeth and claws at the end of his fingers. His ears had morph, quite painfully, into two large bat like ears covered in think green fur that matched his hair. He also gain a small green fluffy tail, which had been painful enough to knock him out when the nub had broke free from his skin. He had green fur growing along his shoulders and spine… his feet too had change. No longer will he had to wear red shoes that signify that he was Quirkless… at least in Japan. After days of bending and cracking until they were digitigrade… covered in dark green fur that went to his knees… toes forming together until only three remained. They were small but also lethal, with claws that made up nearly half of the total size. Everything had been so painful… and he knew that the Director plan on doing more…
And then finally… Mecha Man came… he burst into the lab through the wall in his giant suit, letting the light of the sun shine down on th cage children for the first time in years. Behind him was many other heroes, following his lead. Apparently a child they had kidnapped recently was some rich person’s child and he had been on the case, finding the secret labs. Izuku didn’t remember much of the fight… just his cage being open and Mecha Man scooping him out… whispering assurances that he was safe… that no one would hurt him anymore.
It wasn’t surprising to anyone that Izuku had latched onto him… especially since he had no one else. His father… Hisashi had been arrested when the records were look into and no one wanted to trust social workers of Japan after it was discover they never did a background check to make sure that Hisashi was a good fit to even be a parent. It was only to be for a short while… but it didn’t take long to make Izuku an official Robertson. And Mecha Man became his papa.
That had been ten months ago…. Four months ago his papa went out to face a villain. A villain that he had history with. Though Izuku didn’t know the full story, only that Shroud was the reason Grandpa was dead… but that night, his papa didn’t come home and Izuku had learn on the news of the explosion that had sent his papa crashing down. He had been horrifed, grabbing ahold of Beef and crying into his soft black and white fur. Then he had grabbed his papa’s phone and dial the number he was told to call if anything happen to Papa. To call Track Star.
That was how he met Uncle Chase, who had been shock to learn that his little brother had taken in a child… a very traumatize child. But the Beta had quickly taken him and Beef in and made sure that Izuku still went to school… at least until Izuku got expelled when he bit someone after the other boy started mocking Mecha Man and then said that his papa clearly got tired of caring of a Hybrid freak. So now, Izuku spend his days in his papa’s hospital room while Chase was at work… either waiting for papa to wake up or for Uncle Chase to come and pick him up.
Izuku sniffles again, feeling his tears stream down his face. He brings his hands up to wipe at his eyes, when a hand gently pats him on the head, between his ears and softly ruffles his dark green curls. Looking up, he sees his papa smiling softly at him, “Hey…. Hey pup,” he croaks out, “I hope I hadn’t made you worry too much…”
“P-papa….” Izuku whispers, feeling a fresh wave of tears fall down his face, “Papa!” crying out, Izuku crawls onto the bed, all but pouncing on his papa’s chest making him grunt as the air was force out of his lungs. He sobs loudly as his papa wraps his arms around him… they were much skinnier… and shakey… but it was still his papa… his papa was now awake. Pushing his face into the crook of his papa's neck, Izuku takes in a deep breath, relaxing as the scents of caramel, oil and Twinkies grew stronger as his papa became more aware.
Robert felt his heart ache as Izuku sobs into his neck. Robert had never expected to have a kid one day, not when he got onto suppressions as soon as he presented as an Omega. He vaguely remembers how angry his dad had been and how it had started another fight between him and pops… how the next day his dad had shoved the pills into his chest and told him to take them every six months so he wouldn’t be held back by a heat. He knew, years later after doing some research that what his dad did was terrible… that it may have made Robert infertile, though he didn’t know fully… to scared to actually get check and know that if he did the doctors would force him to stop… and Robert couldn’t stop… not when his pops is out there running around as a major villain for the last 13 years.
And he understands why his dad did it. Back then before Robert was seventeen, it had been illegal for Omegas to become heroes. Sure society gotten somewhat better after the whole chaos that was cause by the arrival of Quirks, Demons, magic and aliens. No one cared what someone had in their pants, how they identified themselves. Not when people look vastly different from one another and no way to control it. It took awhile of course… humans are a bloody and violent race. A lot of people had died… but it made people more tolerant… unfortunately it took much more time to have people change their thoughts about omegas. Many believe that omegas should stay at home, take care of the home and raise pups while be protected by alphas. Not caring at that some omegas get with other omegas or even betas. Not caring that some omegas wanted to do more than just bear pups… Robert's dad was one of those Omegas. After Grandpa Bobbie had died in the line of duty, Robert's dad had took as many suspression pills and hid his true dynamic from everyone except for the select few. Robert did the same when he took the mantle. To the eyes of the public, each and every Mecha Man had been an Alpha. Even when the law was changed after a female hero by the name Thorn Whip came out as an Omega and she rally the masses, Robert kept his dynamic under lock and key.
And…it made Robert feel safer, the less people knew he was an omega, the better in his opinion. Besides the pills, Robert made sure that he had an almost endless supply of scent blockers to block his actual scent, though he’s been taking them off more at home to keep Izuku happy. And unlike what some reporters say Robert does not plan on anyone taking up the mantle after him. Robert Robertson the Third is going to be the last Mecha Man if he had anything to say about it. He will be the last person to die in the suit. So if the pill did make him infertile…
But then he met Izuku...a sweet little boy who absolutely love heroes… a child who hadn’t even presented yet stuck in a dog crate of all things...in pain after having his body modify against his will. Sold off by a person that was suppose to love and care for him after he lost the only one that did. Maybe his pills didn’t suppress all his Omega like Robert thought… what had turn into just a couple of weeks of Izuku staying with him until a nice family could be found, soon turn into months with Robert calling in some favors that he was owned and signing the adopted papers making Izuku his pup… Robert does not regret it. Izuku gave him another reason to live beside Beef and wanting to throw his pops back into jail where he belongs. His pup had become the light of his life and he felt so much sadness well up in him as Izuku cried his little heart out.
"Mr. Robertson," a soft growl escapes from Robert and he wraps his arm around Izuku, holding him close. He only relaxed slightly when he noticed it was a doctor who had spoke up. Luckily she don't take any offense, in fact she smiles softly, "I'm glad to see that you have finally woken up. Little Izuku here has been quite worried ever since your older brother has brought him here since you been admitted.
"Izuku must had called in Track Star," Robert thought as he pushes himself up, grimacing in pain. But he kept Izuku press against his side, cuddling against him. "Well I'm glad to be awake as well," he croaks out, voice hoarse from disuse, "How long have I've been out?"
"About four months now, Mr. Robertson." The doctor informs him to his shock, but she turns to the clipboard in her hand, “If you feel up to it, we have a lot to talk about. A talk I very much know that you aren’t going to enjoy at all,” Robert grimaces at this, “Also, will you like a glass of water?”
“Please,” Robert croaks, rubbing Izuku back when the boy whines and pushes his face more into his face.
After taking a couple of small sips, the Doctor, who introduces herself as Doctor Rose began to explain. And she was incredibly correct that Robert did not enjoy this one bit. After the explosion he had crashed hard, luckily no one had been hurt except for him. A few heroes had ran onto the scene fighting off the Red Ring that had been about to pull him out of the mech and quickly took him to the hospital… he hadn’t been in good shape… and a lot of it hadn’t even been from the incident… the explosion just made it more worse. His joints which had already been under significant strain, chronic wears… microfractures that never healed properly...the explosion and the fall just made it all worse. He had been told that he was lucky enough that he didn’t lose his leg...but he will be having to deal with chronic pain for the rest of his life.. he will have days that he will have migraines because of brain damage that the hospital had been able to repair.
Robert nodded his head, stroking Izuku’s green curls as the pup fell asleep, taking in all the information. Then Doctor Rose inform him that he will not be allowed to take any heat suppressants, at least for a year. She looked at him sternly when he opens his mouth to protest, “You have been abusing them. As soon as you were admitted into the hospital we started the detoxing process and we did some blood work. Your hormones are destabilize and its a miracle that you haven’t damage your insides… that you haven’t died from organ failure. So no, it will be on medical file that you won’t be allow any suppressants at least one year, though I recommend it be two years,” her yellow eyes look down at the slumbering Izuku, “And if you won’t do it for yourself, do it for him… because if you keep going on this path… you will make him an orphan…”
Robert grimaces at this and holds back the urge to glare at her, “I thought… I thought the only risks was me becoming infertile.”
Doctor Rose sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose, “No there are other risks, its just usually the fear of not having pups that people focus more on. But I will say this, you haven’t become infertile if that is your concern. Once your hormones stabilize after you have a heat you should be able to have pups if you so desire,”
Robert snorts, “I already have one pup,” he gestures to Izuku who mumbles in his sleep and kicks his foot out. Smiling softly, Robert sighs, “How much is this going to cost?”
Doctor Rose frowns, turning her gaze back to the clipboard, “Nothing sir… it appears that someone made a large donation for your care. Its was put on by someone who wanted to stay anonymous but it paid for all your treatment.”
Robert frowns feeling a flash of anger rise up in him. “Is that how you apologize for blowing me up, pops? By paying my medical bills so I won’t be in debt?” he thought angrily but pushes the feeling down before a growl could slip free. He just hope that Shroud hasn’t learn of Izuku...when he had taken Toxic to his apartment, he had made sure that his pup was safe and out of sight of the Red Ring’s lieutenant, fast asleep in his bed.
“Anyway, after a few days of physical therapy and some more treatments,” Doctor Rose looks up and smiles, “You should be able to be discharge. I also like to inform you that you have a visitor.”
“A visitor?” Robert asked tensely but Doctor Rose didn’t seem to notice, allowing another man to step inside. He gave Robert black Einstein vibes, wearing a yellow sweater over a blue button up matching the black khakis.
“Well guess who decided to wake up. You motherfucking freckle face fuck!” the man all but shots before speeding over and wrapping his arms around him, “Scared the living shit out of me watching you crash, you skinny latte prick!”
“That’s an aggressive way to hug someone,” Robert groans, confuse before he squirms a bit, finally pulling away, “Admittedly, I haven’t had a hug in a while, but could you… maybe not?”
“What?” the old man frowns, placing his hands on his waist. “Its a hug, not a hand job. Lighten up…. Oh wait… its because I’m old as shit. How about this?” he smirks as he goes into a very familiar pose. “This jog your memory?”
“Holy shit,” Robert breaths out, “Track Star?” he whispers out in disbelief, “What… how? Why do you look like black Einstein?”
“Oh, you fucker.” Chase lightly punches Robert on the arm, “Why are you accepting hugs from old men ya don’t know?” he laughs a bit, even as Robert pulls him into another hug. “Its the powers. I could move fifty times faster than the average person but I didn’t realize until it was too late that I was aging fifty times faster when I use my powers. Nowadays, I’m movin’ slower than frozen piss to keep the ole ticker from popping… though your pup almost did do that when he called me!” he pulls back as he gestures to Izuku, shooting Robert a glare, “You adopted him ten months ago and couldn’t even give me a call to tell me that I’m an Uncle?”
“Technically I adopted him six months ago,” Robert smiles even as the beta gives him a glare, “Originally he was only staying with me until another family could be found but… I grew attached…”
“No shit,” Chase snarks, rolling his eyes.
“I only didn’t call you because I knew that Shroud was watching. I’ve been trying my best to keep Izuku out of his ears. Pops knows that I cut contact with you after I took up the mantle. He would know something was up…”
Chase glares at him before he sighs, “Shit… I hate it when you’re right… I fucking hate it,” he settles in a chair, the two allowing the silence to fill the air, “What do you plan to do now? I look in on the mech after I took Izuku out of that shit hole you call an apartment. Him and that absolute angel you call Beef, I’m even more mad that you hid him from me. Be warn I might actually try and steal him.” Robert chuckles, shoulder shaking even as his body flare up in pain, “Its all but completely destroyed, the pieces that were collected were place into storage waiting for you to come and pick it up after the doctors said you make it. But there’s no Astral Pulse. I check, that thing is fucking missing,”
Robert groans at this, shoulders slumping as he rubs his face, “I… I don’t know...I’m guessing since Shroud and the Red Ring isn’t running rampage that means he doesn’t have it either…” he pushes his face into his hands, “I should had realize it was a trap… that it shouldn’t had been that easy to find him.
“Soooo, whaddaya have left on them shields? I say forty percent but the boss man says you’re down to twenty-eight, and we both know he’s not wrong about these things. Good news for you though… all you need to do is stop this fussing and get out the suit and hand yourself and the Astral Pulse over like the good Omega you are. Oh? Is that surprise I smell? And fear? Don’t worry sweetheart we won’t hurt you… Boss man will kill us if we even try! But yeah he told us your an Omega that had been force to hide himself to live up to a dead man’s expectations. You don’t have to do that anymore babe...we even have a nice room set up for you. Boss had us get so many nesting materials… it actually broke my heart learning that you were forbidden from making a nest. But you can make one now… babe we can do this the easy way or the hard way. Get the fuck out of the tin can yourself or we blast it apart to drag you out kicking and screaming. He says you’re not calculating that shit stuck to your leg.”
“Robert?” jerking up, Robert turns his attention back to Chase who looks at him in concern, “Listen...I work at SDN now...if you want I can talk to some people about getting you a job. They also have a school that you can admit Izuku in after working a week or two…”
Robert frowns, “Izuku already goes to school…” he sat up when Chase grimaces, “What happen?”
“Kid got expelled… after he punch another kid in the face and then bit them on the arm. Apparently the other brat didn’t believe that you were in a coma and Izuku had been lying about it to cover up that you abandoned him because he’s a hybrid.”
“He punch someone? He bit someone?” Robert groans, rubbing at his eyes.
“Now you know I and Elliot felt when you did that shit as a kid.”
“Chase…. Shut up,”
