Chapter Text

“...So that’s why I need your help.”

Purple bites her lip, watching intently as Red slowly chews on his slice of cake. Her own cake is forgotten on the table in front of her, but it doesn’t really matter.

“Are you sure he did that?” Red asks, mouth still slightly full. “That doesn’t sound like him.”

“I know. It kinda freaked me out if I’m being honest.”

“This must be bad.” Red scoops up another bite, talking casually as if Purple’s relationship with Green isn’t at stake. (It probably isn’t, but who knows at this point.) “Huh. So, like, what do you need my help with?” He leans forward. “This sounds like a boyfriend-girlfriend problem if I’m being real. And to be honest?... I’d probably make things worse.” He seems a bit reluctant to admit it.

Purple sighs. “I asked you for help because, well, you know Green. You know how to communicate with him, probably better than I do.”

She looks up at Red. He’s chewing thoughtfully, nodding slowly, so that must be a good sign.

“I need him to know that I love him just as much too! And Freedom Guy doesn’t mean a thing to me anymore!”

“Really.” Red raises an eyebrow, then swallows. “You could start by tearing down your posters,” he suggests. “And throwing away your CDs.”

“What? No. I’m not gonna throw away good money.” Purple crosses her arms. “I’m asking you to help me get my point across to him. Because he won’t believe me whenever I tell him that I’m not obsessed with Freedom Guy any longer.” She exhales a heavy breath. “He must really be jealous…”

Red snorts. “So, like, when we’re talking about Green being insanely jealous, does he go all Spanish-feral or something? Or like, does he—”

Purple blushes furiously and jerks forward. “Red! That isn’t the point.” (And she doesn’t want to go into detail.) “What’s the point is that I really need your help. And a plan.”

He ponders for a moment. What’s it going to cost him to help a friend in need?

“Will there be more cake?”

She sighs heavily. “Yes, there will be more cake.”

Red grins. “I’m in.”

Blue can’t stop laughing.

Green had come home from his date with Purple yesterday, red-faced and looking sort of embarrassed (something he rarely looks like). At the time, Blue was the only one at the desktop, so he’d asked Green what had happened.

But Green had shut himself in his room without a reply.

He hasn’t come out yet. Or perhaps he has, but has slipped out of the desktop to go to Minecraft or something, unbeknownst to Blue.

But Red was willing to fill in all of the details, after coming home a few moments ago from Purple’s house, face smug as he spills the tea to Blue.

Blue is practically crying with laughter. “Are you serious?” he cackles, ribs aching from the effort of laughing. “Green did that?”

Red shrugs, leaning back on the block he’s sitting on. “That’s what Purple told me.” He snickers. “I believe her, honestly. It doesn’t surprise me that Green would pull an act like that.”

“Oh man.” Blue wipes his eyes. He sits next to Red, leaning his diamond hoe against the block and picking up his canteen of water. “So, why are you telling me all this?”

“Ah.” Red shrugs again. “She asked me to convince Green that there’s no reason for him to be jealous.”

At this, Blue spits out his water. Wiping his mouth, he turns to Red. “Seriously?!” he chokes. “Us? Trying to convince Green of something? You know how Green is like, Red. You know.” He rubs the back of his neck. “Especially when it has to do with his girlfriend. He’s so stubborn and protective over her. I don’t think this is gonna be very easy.”

“Oh, I know. And that’s what makes it funny.” Red chuckles. “I told her I’d help her, of course.”

Blue squints at him.

“What?? I wanna see how it all ends.” Red giggles.

Their conversation is interrupted by the sound of a Nether portal opening. Blue and Red turn to see Green walking through, pickaxe slung over his shoulder, hair messy and face dirty. He stops in the middle of Blue’s garden, looking tired but still glaring at the two.

Uncomfortable silence.

Blue bites his lip, unsure of what to do.

Green’s eyebrow raises. “Hi?” he states.

“Hi,” Red replies.

“Hullo,” Blue returns with a bob of his head.

“Why are you both staring at me like that.” Green lets his pickaxe drop to the floor.

Red stands up slowly. Peering at Green with an exaggerated squint, he takes a cautious step forward, examining Green from front to back, top to bottom. Then, he places his hands on his hips and gives a nod. “Yep,” he states, “that’s Green alright.”

Green looks confused. “What in the cursors bro.”

Blue nods slowly, catching on. “You sure that’s the same Green Purple told you about?” he queries.

“Oh, definitely,” Red replies firmly. He then spots Orange across the desktop, waving his hand to grab the hollowhead’s attention. “Hey, Orange! This is Green, riiiiight?”

From a short distance, Orange squints and then turns away. “Yeah nope, I’m not getting involved this time.”

Blue laughs under his breath.

“Okay, what in the world?” Green backs away. “What’s this about, guys? Why are you treating me like I’m some sort of alien?”

“Because of Purple,” Red responds. “She told me that the Green that was at her house yesterday was all dark-eyed and Spanish and… and… romantic.”

“...Romantic?” Green still looks baffled.

Romeo-romantic,” Red adds. “She also said that he was insanely jealous for her. Isn’t that something?”

Green squints at Red, before his eyes widen with realization. He pinches the bridge of his nose. “Ohhhh, that.”

“Yes, that,” Red agrees firmly.

“So, Romeo, wanna tell us what happened?” Blue crosses his arms, standing up to join Red’s side.

Green looks up at them, cheeks flushed, posture stiff. “It was nothing,” he says, his voice abnormally small. “Nothing. You don’t need to be worried.” He turns away.

“Oh, no, no, no, no.” Red places a hand on Green’s shoulder. “You ain’t going anywhere, Señor Loverboy. Not until you explain yourself.”

Blue nods. “If I’m correct, you scared the living daylights outta Purple.”

Green throws his head back with a heavy sigh. “Ay, idiotas que están pinchando,” he mutters. (Neither Red nor Blue speak Spanish so it’s fine.) “Fine. I’ll explain if I must.”

Gathering his breath, he tells them everything. His arranged date. Purple’s enthusiasm to meet Freedom Guy. Their ruined lunch. Their ruined movie. Their destroyed romantic walk. He didn’t get into detail, but briefly explained what happened in Purple’s room afterwards.

“I know I scared her,” he admits. “I was out of control. I regret it.” He runs a hand down his face. “It’s really stupid, I know. I was just mad that our date was sabotaged.” He gathers himself for the next part. “She was really obsessed with Freedom. And... Well. You guys remember what happened when I was obsessed with something.”

Blue stiffens at this. Red rubs his arm, lowering his gaze. No one likes to speak of Green’s infamous influencer era.

“I… I hurt you. All of you.” Green bites his lip. “It’s sort of selfish, but I didn’t want to get hurt because of Purple’s obsession. That stuff can be really dangerous.”

Blue and Red trade a glance. That sounds reasonable, if they’re being honest.

Blue moves first. “That’s valid,” he says simply. “But, Purple needs to know the truth.”

“You really scared her,” Red adds.

Green nods ashamedly. “I know. I feel bad...” He straightens, putting on a grin. “I’ll tell her tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow? Why tomorrow?” Blue demands.

Green picks up his pickaxe, walking away with a salute. “I just performed three speedruns, dude, I’m exhausted,” he drawls. “Hasta luego, mis amigos.”

“Oy! Don’t forget our basketball game tomorrow!” Red hollers.

“I won’t!” Green calls back.

Three speedruns? Sheesh.” Blue laughs. “The things you do when you’re in love, I guess.”

“So wait… what’s going on tomorrow?”

Red and Blue spin around to see Yellow standing there, laptop tucked under his arm. The two of them trade an awkward glance.

“How long have you been standing there?” Red demands.

“Like, five minutes,” Yellow replies. He smirks. “What happened this time?”

Blue snickers. “Dude, you’d better sit down. Have we got a story to tell you.”

✧ FREEDOM GUY ✧

The charming smile of Freedom Guy stares up at Purple, as she examines the poster on her bed. Next to it lie the vinyl, the action figure, and the DVD collection, all lined up in a row. She used to be proud of said collection, but isn’t anymore. Not since Green… well, you know.

Moving quickly, Purple rolls up the poster into a tight cylinder and secures it with a rubber band, before tossing it under her bed. Next, she gathers the DVDs and CDs in her arms, placing them in her drawer. Her vinyl is placed neatly on top of it, before it’s firmly shut. Finally, the action figure. She puts that in her closet, in a box full of forgotten items.

Wiping her hands, she glances around the room. There is no sign of her knowledge of Freedom Guy. She straightens the picture of the selfie she took with the Color Gang at the fair so it’s in the center of the dresser, and adjusts all of her other pictures around it, too — especially the ones she has of her mama — so they’re easily visible.

Purple steps back to admire her work. The wall behind the dresser looks sort of empty, but that’s fine. She’s always wanted fairy lights there.

She fidgets with the necklace she wears. It’s the one Green gave her a while ago. Before, she’d worn it partially hidden under her shirt. But now, she wants to make sure Green can see it. So, she makes sure the pendant is sitting on top of her shirt instead of under it.

Green had texted her earlier, saying simply: “we need to talk.” This sounded urgent, especially after what had happened. Purple is itching to know what he has to say. At this point, he’s probably going to pull a “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” move — kidnap her under the cover of night and bring her home with him against her will. … And then elope.

Sweet cursors and keyboards, she thinks hazily.

At that moment, she hears a firm knock on the door. Green has arrived. Stiffening, she opens it.

Green looks taller than usual as he steps inside. “We need to talk,” he says ominously. Just like he had said in his text, only this time, it sounded more urgent.

“Green, I’m telling you!” she cries out, almost immediately.

Purple spins around, sitting down on her bed. Green closes the door slowly, shutting it with a firm click. Purple rubs her arm, nervously watching him. He doesn’t turn around to face her. He looks so big and strong, which can be very intimidating sometimes.

“Freedom Guy doesn’t mean a thing to me!” she tries, trying to keep her voice steady. She waves her hands around the room, indicating the lack of Freedom Guy merch. Green, however, pays no need.

He sighs, deep and long, jaw clenched just like his fist on the doorknob. He still doesn’t say anything, which makes Purple a bit more nervous than necessary. She has never seen him like this before.

He’s mad.

Of course he’s mad. She made him mad. He’s mad because of her. It’s her fault, isn’t it?

She bites her lip. “I’m sorry,” she says quietly, letting her head drop. “You’re angry at me, aren’t you.”

He doesn’t reply.

For a long time, there’s just awkward silence.

Then, out of nowhere, Green begins to laugh.

Purple’s head immediately shoots up when he begins to laugh, shoulders shaking with the effort. She crinkles her eyebrows at him, perplexed.

When he spins to face her, she discovers that his expression is twisted into an amused smile and red with suppressed laughter.

Befuddled, Purple tries to find a response to this, but Green beats her to it.

“I’m sorry, Purple,” he says before laughing some more. “I didn’t mean to take it this far. Honestly, I didn’t.”

Purple squints at him, at a loss for words. Take what too far, exactly? Why are you apologizing? I should be the one apologizing…

“Okay, okay. I’m not actually insanely jealous for you.” Green sits down next to her on the bed. Purple wants to scooch away, but can’t. “I mean, I am, but… hey.”

Timidly, he places a hand on hers. It’s warm. Nice. Calloused, but gentle. Purple stares at it, biting her lip.

“I’m sorry I made you feel weird, Purple. Please forgive me?”

Her eyes linger on his hand. She’s not confused, just… thoughtful.

“Look.” She looks up at him when he speaks again. “I was obsessed with something once.” He pauses. “I ended up intentionally hurting my best friends because of that obsession. In fact, I almost lost them and myself because of it.”

Purple raises an eyebrow. “When did…?”

“Shh. That’s not important now.”

(But here’s the thing. It is important. Just not exactly urgent.)

“I’ll explain everything later.” Green shifts in his seat to face her better. “I don’t want that to happen to you, Purps. I can’t let you go through the same pain that I did.

“It’s okay to admire someone or something, but when it becomes an obsession, that’s when it can actually hurt people as well as yourself.”

He smiles hopefully, then reaches up to run his finger down her braid, which is resting on her shoulder. His hand eventually settles on hers, grasping it tightly. “Please forgive me, Purple. It was really stupid, and... I dunno, I just…” He pauses, and inhales. “I love you.”

She stares at him for a moment. Green’s eyes, such an elegant color of deep emerald, are pleading. He looks pretty sincere.

Purple bites her lip, trying to hold back a smile. “So all of that,” she begins quietly, “was staged? The jealousy, the… kiss?”

He scoffs. “That was real. I might’ve been a bit jealous, I guess. But I was just a bit upset that our date went wrong and all that.” He stops for a moment. “And I completely lost control over the theatrics when I kissed you. Holy sticks. I am so sorry—”

“I liked it.” Purple is smiling now.

Green blinks. “Sorry, what…?”

Purple looks up at him, cheeks just as rosy as they were when she met Freedom Guy. She traces a circle with her thumb on Green’s hand, stifling a giggle.

“I liked it,” she repeats, a bit louder this time. “Sort of. I mean, I liked having someone jealous over me. It’s… never happened to me before because, well… no one’s ever loved me the way you do.” She can’t stop smiling now. “Of course I forgive you, Green.”

“It… uhm.” He blushes, now stumbling over his own words. “It wasn’t selfish…?”

“A little.” Purple smiles softly. “Just a bit.”

“...I’ll work on it.”

“I know.”

She bites her lip. “Can I put my poster back up?’ she asks.

He snorts. “If you want. But I better not be hoarded with Freedom Guy every five minutes.”

She giggles. “Okay, okay, deal. I won’t bug you.” Then, her lips curl in a smirk. “As much.”

“Aw! You stinker!” he laughs, leaning forward. She tries to back away, but he catches her around the waist. Playfully, he presses his forehead against hers. In a moment, their laughter dies down.

They sit in companionable silence for a little. Green’s gaze drops down to her lips for a wild moment, then he drags it back up.

“Soooo… what should we do now?” he asks, his voice barely above a whisper.

This time, it’s Purple who initiates the kiss, leaning in close, still smiling uncontrollably. It’s gentle and sweet, and Green pulls her a little closer to deepen it. She smiles against his lips. He’s not theatrical anymore — just kind and genuine.

It’s just them, together in the silence, and they don’t pull away for a while.

That is, until Green’s phone buzzes in his pocket.

The warmth of his hands on Purple’s sides leaves, and she’s a bit disappointed as he pushes away with a soft grunt.

“Mmph. Hol’ up, just a sec.”

Green twists around, pulling his phone out, keeping one arm wrapped around Purple’s waist to hold her close, eyes flicking across the screen. His notifications have been going off for a few minutes, but he’s barely noticed it.

Sleeping Beauty: [ Green if you don’t answer your phone rn i’m telling Alan ]

Furry: [ rip lol ]

Smarty Pants: [ When are you coming back? We’re waiting. ]

For a moment, he’s confused. Waiting for what? Then, he remembers dumbly. Oh, right. We had a basketball game.

He quickly prepares to type in his answer, squirming briefly when Purple presses a soft kiss to his jaw. “Purps! That tickles, stop it.” He wipes his cheek on his shoulder.

“Aw, c’mon, put the phone down…” she pouts, leaning further into him. That just makes it harder to type.

“Hold on.”

Yo Boi: [ k ]

Green waits for a reply. Purple snickers at his phone screen. He’s obviously stalling on purpose, she knows.

Oh boy how they both love bugging the gang…

Furry: [ OMW GREEN NOW’S NOT THE TIME FOR k'S 🙄🙄🤮🙄🤦‍♂️ ]

Sleeping Beauty: [ u serious rn ]

Yo Boi: [ dude chill, ]

Smarty Pants: [ And how long is “a sec”? ]

Yo Boi: [ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ]

He envisions Red throwing his phone across the room out of anger from Green’s simplistic replies and hides a snicker. Purple is still snuggled up beside him, so a second might as well last forever.

Blue Wizard: [ He’s probably making out with Purple atp or smth ]

Sleeping Beauty: [ CURSORS, BLUE- ]

Blue Wizard: [ :P ]

Red sends back a kissing GIF. That’s the last thing Green sees before he blushes and hastily turns off his phone.

“I have to go,” he says, gently pushing Purple away. “The boys and I have a basketball game today.”

Purple doesn’t reply; just gives him a sorry look.

“I promised,” he adds.

She sighs. “Alright, have fun.” She smirks after a moment. “But not too much fun.”

“Aww, is someone a little jealous?” Green snickers, standing up and making his way to the door.

Purple leans back on her hands with a haughty chuckle. “You were jealous first.”

“Who said I was jealous?” Green winks.

Purple rolls her eyes, but smiles even wider. “Get outta my room already.” Green laughs out loud, opening the door. “Love you, mon cherí.”

“Love you back,” Green calls over his shoulder as he leaves the room, shutting the door behind him. “¡Hasta luego!”

Purple giggles to herself.
