Chapter 3: The baby belongs to them!

Notes:

For the sake of the story, they aren't outed yet. Shane plays for Montreal, and Ilya for Ottawa. And Montreal isn't a team of morons.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Ilya and Shane have crossed yet another milestone. After this move to Ottawa, settling down with the Irina foundation, and now married in secret, they have finally decided to start a family. For the sake of team dynamics and future practices, they decided to only include the team and the coaches for now. It was scary to think they were not only coming out, but also throwing a baby in the mix without a warning. The teams are decidedly shocked, speechless, and surprisingly in a competition.

Shane is not sure how they got here. here as in among a room overflowing with hockey players, competition is more serious than they compete on ice to establish which team his child will be supporting (they have kicked out Ilya and Shane from this decision).
It started as a small argument, Ilya chirping at Pike, and then JJ defending his friend, and then Troy defending his friend, and somehow it escalated to Montreal vs. Ottawa, with the agenda being who can be the best bunch of uncles to their captain's child. The argument turns into a competition, and the competition turns into a war as several parenting games are involved. Ilya is happily the self-assigned referee, and the guys, the full-grown adults, are competing with diaper changes on dolls, handling baby bags, toys, and stroller races with stability.

Months later, when the news has officially come out, Harris becomes a nightmare to both teams, posting the clips he collected on the fateful day.

Through it all, the star of the scene, their child, has met many of the players and has betrayed both teams by meeting and falling for Scott Hunter and ending up wearing his jersey.

Notes:

This was an outcome of reading too many fics of them adopting a child, or acquiring Ilya's niece as their child, or the Abo mpreg fics. another fluff and comedy fic. I haven't read the book yet, so I can't really work on this idea for sure because I'm not aware of the group dynamics past what I've encountered on Ao3 fics, but I'd love to see this one as a long-length fic
