Eyes staring into the fire, Hestia prayed to the Fates, the Moirai. Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos. Please, she thought sadly. Please help them in some way. Assist them. If they must go through this again—if they have no choice but to fight another war for us the gods—at least aid them.
The fire crackled and flickered as a soft breeze whooshed by. Hestia watched as images she did not will to life passed through the fire, too quickly to decipher. Her eyes widened as each moment in time embedded itself in her head. Her swelled and broke and melted and sank and mended and shattered and rejoiced. The past made her ache, the present made her restless, the future made her terrified.

Hestia starrte ins Feuer und betete zu den Schicksalsgöttinnen, den Moiren. Clotho, Lachesis und Atropos. Bitte, dachte sie traurig. Bitte helft ihnen irgendwie. Steht ihnen bei. Wenn sie das schon wieder durchmachen müssen – wenn ihnen nichts anderes übrig bleibt, als einen weiteren Krieg für uns Götter zu führen –, dann helft ihnen wenigstens.
Das Feuer knisterte und flackerte, während eine sanfte Brise vorbeistrich. Hestia beobachtete, wie Bilder, die sie nicht zum Leben erwecken wollte, durch das Feuer huschten, zu schnell, um sie zu deuten. Ihre Augen weiteten sich, als sich jeder Augenblick in ihr Gedächtnis einprägte. Ihr Herz schwoll an, zerbrach, schmolz, sank, heilte, zersplitterte und jubelte. Die Vergangenheit schmerzte sie, die Gegenwart machte sie ruhelos, die Zukunft ängstigte sie.
