It was then that he understood Will had gone utterly still, his body no longer stirred by any tremor or spasm. He could not tell whether it meant that it was working, or that it was already too late. Still, he had to go on.

The words slid from his tongue with a disarming, almost terrifying ease, and under other circumstances, he might have flinched at their truth, at how utterly unlike that night in the pizzeria they sounded.
