Pavel leaves marks, too. Somehow, his wispy blond hair makes its way onto Daan’s pressed cotton shirts, his cashmere jumpers, his silk pajamas. A heady Bremen cologne clings to his favorite waistcoat. The scent is something earthy and sweet and awfully garish. Daan’s head reels from the aromachemicals, but he sniffs the fabric like one of Pavlov’s dogs anyway. Waiting in his hotel room for a figure wearing a worn blue button-up and poor man’s sandalwood. Salivating in response to salvation.
