Chapter Text

10:36 A.M.
JPN TIME

They arrive at the Narita International Airport waiting at the terminal.

The long car ride went quite smoothly. Falling asleep most of the way as she watched out the car’s window. Arm rested on the crook of the door, her fist pressed against her face, it reminded her of when she was younger.

When Mom used to take her out on long trips in the family car far...far...away down to the beaches of Florida. Beige, wet, and grainy sand squishing underneath her feet as she danced across the land exploring tiny tidepools that would welcome her into their small worlds. The cold ocean waves pushed and pulled against her ankles, giving her a bit of a scare when the tide would get too high–the sounds of crashing waves giving her a fair warning. Sea water would playfully splash at her legs beckoning her to jump right into the foamy blue ocean while the scent of salty air blew through her long dark locks, tickling at her cheeks.

She shivers at the thought now with her last experience with the sea.

“Papa! Over here!” Holy jumps, waving her hands over the sea of people to her father, Joseph Joestar.

The old man’s eyes scan over the crowd looking for the origin of his daughter’s voice when he sees her.

“Holy!” He smiles, yelling, “All of you out of my way!” Annoyed at the groupings he pushes past the clumps of people, pulling his little girl into an impossibly tight hug.

Gushing about how long it's been since he's visited, Holy suddenly begins to tickle him, making the old man howl in the middle of the airport. Drawing in the stares of bystanders, Jolyne could only snicker at the cartoonish scene in front of her. A bit shocked by this affectionate display.

This was the man that's supposed to be her great grandfather? Her Dad’s Grandpa?

“Oh Papa I'm sorry for calling you all the way here but I didn't know what to do...”

Petting her head the old man laughs, “Oh don't apologize Holy, with my daughter in trouble how could I ignore the call, whatever you ask I'll be there!”

Holy hugs her father tighter, beginning to sob. “Oh Jotaro..” She sniffles, “He just won't listen to me…”

“Hey now Holy he's going to be fine.” Pulling out a handkerchief he wipes her tears away. “Now let me ask you this, he has an “evil spirit”, yes? A spirit only you and Jotaro can see?”

“Yes that's right the officers weren't able to see anything at all but I saw it all. A hand came out of him…oh it was awful.”

“I see…don't worry Holy, Jotaro will be just fine now that I'm here!” He chuckles, squeezing her tightly in his arms.

With one last squeeze of his torso she pulls away, the tears now dried on her cheeks, “Alright Papa I’ll trust you on this…and oh! Before I forget!”

She grabs Jolyne by the arm, pulling her to stand in front of the older man, “Papa this is Jolyne, I didn't get to explain on our call but I met her passed out on the ground while I was walking home. She'll be staying with us for a while but get this!”

“Jolyne here has a spirit attached to her too!”

With inspecting eyes Joseph scans the teen girl’s tall and strong figure. Studying her facial features she had quite the determined look, the eyes of someone who refuses to back down, a hard expression plastered on her face, a strange appearance of familiarity as well.

“This girl…is a stand user?”

Jolyne swallows her nervousness, “That's right, I'll explain it all to you later.”

Hand on her hip she facepalms, “It's going to be a long story but let's not waste time with all these introductions, isn't there your grandson to save?”

“Hmm. Alright then…tell me everything once we’re done.”

He snaps his fingers to the man lounging on the airport chairs who rises to follow them out the doors.

This man is none other than the Muhammad Avdol.

“Holy, Jolyne, this man is a friend of mine who’ll be helping us with Jotaro.”

“The pleasure is all mine.” He smiles warmly.

‘What an interesting man...he looks kind enough…but I've never seen him around dad before. Was he there in the disc…? Maybe he was important…’

Stepping into the car they speed off to the prison.

Gazing out the window Jolyne reaches into her pocket pulling out the shining gold locket containing a picture of her father and mother posed together with the sharp stone laying on top.

She flips it open, eyes wistfully examining the photo as Holy, Joseph, and Avdol make loud and friendly conversation. The only thing on her mind being, ‘I wonder what kind of person Dad will be?’

____________________________________________________

The iron bars moan and groan with years of age and rust. Shadows crept through hallways–dust catching the infrequent air drafts leaving a dry and moldy smell while dark disgusting grime seemed to coat every surface.

Just seeing a prison again gave Jolyne an uneasy sinking feeling that resurfaced those bad memories. Goosebumps lined her skin in the uncomfortableness.

The group follows an officer to the cell. The cage that holds the defiant teen Jotaro Kujo. Jolyne bites her lip in nervousness at the thought. Feeling the pressure of the tense atmosphere that surrounded them. ‘Dad…is this really you?’

“He’s terrifying…there's even more things in his cell than this morning!”

Stacks of books on the supernatural were strewn across the floor beside a pile of cans of various drinks. Clothes were hung up on the cell’s bars with a large variety of exercise equipment in the corner. All outside items that would be impossible for a normal person in jail to obtain.

However Jotaro Kujo was no normal person, this was a man possessed by a supposed evil spirit. The spirits user being Jolyne Cujoh’s father. This will be the first time she sees him after his death at Cape Canaveral.

There he sat in his cell with an irritated expression. A frown clearly expressed through his lips.

From what she can see he wore a black school uniform with a large gold chain punctured through the collar, a shirt in greenish grey color tight against his body, two zigzag patterned belts hung off his hips, and there it was, his iconic hat which was cut in half, letting free his long spiky hair in the back.

‘He looks…just like him. There's no mistaking it...this man…this is my dad!’

Holy jumped in front of the cell pleading, “Jotaro, your grandpa is here! I've called him to help you, won't you please listen to him!”

The cell door slams open with a screech forcing the boy to finally stand up to face his grandfather through the bars.

“Jotaro, it's time to go home. I'm demanding you to come out now!”

With sharp eyes he responds with a cold glare, “No way old man. No one's gonna get me out of this jail cell, not even you. Sorry you had to come all the way from New York but there's nothing you can do for me, got it!”

His hand flicks up to reveal the pinkie of Joseph’s synthetic hand. Tossing it between the bars.

“Isn't this proof enough of the strength from my evil spirit? You better get out of here while you can. Or you might lose your life.”

Joseph’s face turns to one of shock, caught off guard by the agility of Jotaro’s stand yet his confidence does not waver. Turning to Avdol he commands him to step in. “Avdol. Come teach my grandson a lesson.”

Facing back to the boy in black who had returned to sitting he speaks, “Now Jotaro, this is a friend of mine that I met three years ago in Egypt, Muhammad Avdol.”

Seriously pissed off now, he looks up, “Avdol huh? Sorry to get you roped into this but I'm not the kind that blindly listens to others. So you can just beat it along with my old man.”

Even though they've just arrived the confrontation had already turned sour. ‘Who knew my young dad could be such a dick! Everyone's trying to help him as always but he's still too stubborn to listen?’

“Mr. Joestar, with the way your grandson is acting I might have to get rough with him. Sometimes suffering it's the only way to make a fool see reason.”

“Be as rough as you want. He'll learn through you soon enough.”

“Papa what are you…!”

Jolyne's eyes widened, “Hey! You can't be serious right? You're not really going to let him...!”

A mass of powerful energy suddenly shot out of Avdol, taking the form of a large red bird with incredible muscles contracting under its sparse fur.

“This!...This is…!”

“That's right Jotaro, this man also has an evil spirit, however he is the one in control of it! You'll know it as...”

“Magician’s Red!”

Flames burst out of thin air slamming Jotaro's body into the cell's wall creating an intense bang.

“Papa, how could you do this to Jotaro! You're hurting him!”

Putting a hand in front of Holy and the cell Jolyne attempts to comfort her, “Holy I know this looks bad but trust in your dad. Jotaro can bring out the spirit to defend himself, we just have to wait!”

‘Seeing him like this makes me even sweat…not that I doubt his fighting capabilities but this looks like this will be his first ever stand fight…!’

Hot fire scorched at his limbs, unable to move any of them no matter how hard he fought against it, writhing and squirming, he’s been pinned to the wall giving him no choice but to pull out the large, purple, humanoid apparition.

“At last Jotaro has shown his evil spirit!”

‘That must be it! My dad's Star Platinum!’

The purple thing held an evil expression, smiling with malice, it grips Avdol’s throat with a fierce intention of killing him. A visible indentation of a hand appeared upon his neck.

Choking, he barely utters the words, “I see…he's able to manifest it in such a solid form! Mr. Joestar, you told me to teach him a lesson but at this point I must defend myself!”

“Do as you must, Avdol. No matter what you must bring him to his senses!”

“You…so we happen to share the same spirit possession…hey old man you better explain yourself!”

The flames remove themselves from Jotaro's hands and feet at Avdol's command turning the blazes into a whip tightening around him to cover his mouth, stealing his breath away. Weakening the form of the purple phantom.

At the sight Joseph smiles, “There you have it! The spirit reacts with you Jotaro. In fact this is not a spirit at all but a stand! A manifestation of your life energy that stands with you!”

Face twisted into a grimace he spits, “Alright I've just about had it with all of you! I've put myself in this cage so I wouldn't be a danger to others but if you're going to get in the way of that then you might as well prepare to die!”

Jotaro's leg kicks backwards into the cell’s toilet, exploding water all over his burning body extinguishing the flames. In a rage his stand rips open the bars grabbing two broken off iron rods sharp enough to pierce through the skull of his attacker.

Avdol, staring at this menacing sight in front of him, an iron bar positioned above his head about to puncture through his skull…

Turns around.

“Hey! Where do you think you're going! Come back and face me!”

With a satisfied smirk the orange clad Egyptian takes a seat, “There you have it Mr. Joestar, Jotaro has left the jail cell.”

The boy’s eyes fall to his feet in shock, he sighs pulling his hands into his jacket pockets, “Well you got me, huh? What if I did try to kill you? Had a plan for that?”

“Of course, my Magician’s Red would have burned through the bars. I'm not that reckless.”, He tsks.

“You see Avdol is a man that shares the same abilities as you so there's no reason to hide. In time you'll be controlling your stand too.”

“Oh Jotaro!” Holy squeals, grabbing onto his arm, hugging him with delight, “You've finally left your cell!”

“Get the fuck off me!” He yells, shooting her a look of disgust.

Causing Jolyne to gape in shock, “Hey! Who the fuck are you to talk to your mother like that you disrespectful brat!”

“Good grief…now who's this woman you brought here. Another one of your weird friends?”

“She's right! Don't use that language on her and stop smiling at him Holy!” He sighs, “I'll explain this girl later but don't think I came all this way just for this.”

Joseph reaches into his coat pocket revealing an image of a boat. The second picture being a coffin with the word “DIO” engraved on it.

“What is this? A coffin?” Jotaro's eyes gloss over the photos in confusion.

“That's exactly right. This is the coffin of a man that had killed my grandfather a century ago. When they opened the box it was already empty. This is the man me and Avdol are chasing.”

“What are you saying? How can a man awaken from the sea one hundred years later?”

“I know it sounds unbelievable but it's true. This evil incarnate’s name is DIO and it is our family's destiny to defeat this man!”

‘He said it! The name DIO! There's no questioning it now. I've been sent to the past. To the point of the very beginning. To the awakening of Enrico Pucci!’ Jolyne swallows thickly; her only problem now is having to explain the situation to the group in front of her.

Would they…really believe her?

______________________________________________________________

“Hey Jotaro, c’mon aren't you listening! I came a long way to talk to you about this, y'know!” Joseph hand slams the table in frustration. After the events in the prison the group finds themselves discussing in a nearby restaurant.

The annoyed teenage boy sighs, “Seriously old man, you expect me to believe a guy from a decade ago crawled out from the depths of the ocean just to wipe out our family? What kind of bullshit story is that?”

“The kind of story that involves spirits made of life energy that can be used to fight perhaps?” Avdol snickers, while Jotaro shoots the man back an irritated glare.

“Fine then. You'll believe this once I show you my own stand power.” Pulling out a polaroid camera, purple vines appear wrapping around his hand before smashing it into the thing. A picture shoots out taking its time to develop. “This Jotaro is the very photo that will reveal your destiny!”

“Now, let me ask you two this, have you ever noticed the birthmark on the backs of your necks?”

“Back of our necks…?” Jotaro asks.

“That's right. Only on the back of our necks is a star birthmark. Everyone in the family lineage bears this mark. Now take a look at this.” He places the photo on the table for all to see.

The photo was clear as day revealing the back of a man, muscles raging under his skin, long golden hair sticking out in a wild fashion, and there it was, a purple star birthmark brandished on his shoulder.

‘That's him!..DIO…this must be the man from my dream. The stature, the hair, the claws…’ she shuddered just remembering.

“That bastard's body is none other than my grandfather’s Jonathan Joestar! Somehow he's managed to survive by stealing it during his hour of death. It's just too much of a coincidence, with our stand powers awakening it's surely the work of DIO!”

Avdol nods, “With my stand powers I was born this way. I've always been able to summon it even as a child but for you and your grandfather the only explanation could be that DIO has awakened the powers within you through a bloodline connection.”

He looks over to the girl, her face tense with furrowed brows, “Jolyne, I can assume you are just like me, correct?”

Jolyne adverts her gaze. “Actually Avdol I've got a story relating to DIO of my own in how I got my stand.” Her expression suddenly turns serious now gathering the attention of the whole table.

“Jolyne...are you saying you've met DIO yourself!” Joseph gasps, stunned.

“Not exactly, just let me explain.” She huffs a heavy sigh. “Good grief...you all better listen well because the story I'm about to tell will sound insane coming from me, so don't make me repeat things it'll just get damn annoying!”

She brings up a hand to point, confident in her gesture.

“I, Jolyne Cujoh, is the daughter of your grandson, Jotaro Kujo!”

Sounds of confusion erupt from around the table.

“Jolyne! Are you sure you're feeling well? Just what are you saying?!” Holy could hardly believe it, this girl her granddaughter?

“That's impossible! You're practically the same age, how could that work?”

Jotaro, as cool as ever, scrunches his brows in confusion and Avdol, well the man was too stunned to speak.

“Don't believe me? Well take a look. With all that birthmark talk earlier you'll surely recognize this!” She sweeps her braid to the side, turning her back revealing the pinkish purpley star birthmark seared onto her shoulder.

There was no denying it. This was the mark all three generations at the table shared.

The mark of Joestar blood.

Joseph's hand moved to wipe at the mark with his fingers only bringing him more surprise, “It's real…you're serious...”

“Yeah that's right and if you need even more proof take a look at this photo yourself.”

Reaching into her pocket Jolyne pulls out the locket given to her in prison. The beginning of where everything went wrong.

She clicks it open. Revealing the photo of an older Jotaro dressed in white next to a woman, her mother, the small stone falling out onto the table.

Holy’s eyes widened, “This…this photo...Jotaro it's you! There's no mistaking it...this is a photo of you but so much older!”

“Let me see that Holy!” Joseph snatches the photo from her fingers holding it in front of Jotaro's face glancing at the two side by side.

“There's no reasoning this Mr. Joestar. The faces are too similar. Jolyne here could only be telling the truth!”

“Unless…she's an enemy sent by DIO and he's already beginning his plan of attack!” The two jump back, pulling out their stands as Jotaro stands up, assuming to fight.

Jolyne’s hands fly up in defense, “All of you relax! I'm not your enemy. I'm only telling you the truth. I'm on your side, just listen to what I have to say!”

The four untense themselves until Joseph spoke up. “Fine then. Just start from the beginning.”

“Alright, here's everything I know. It's true my name is Jolyne Cujoh and I really am Jotaro's daughter. I came all the way from Florida in the year 2011. That means I’m 19 now. This man DIO will be someone you must defeat but he has a subordinate that equals him in danger.” She takes a breath, continuing.

“This underling goes by the name of Enrico Pucci! A priest with the determination to execute DIO’s heaven plan!”

“A heaven plan?” Avdol stutters, astounded by this knowledge.

“That's right. His plan is to bring the universe into one point of singularity. That way everyone will always know their fate. This is heaven…humanity accepting their inevitable outcomes…Dad you're the one who defeated DIO and read this heaven plan. That’s why I'm here…somehow. We were defeated by Pucci back in 2011. We…we failed.” She winces, “Now you see how truly dangerous this DIO is.”

“A man that wants to control the fate of others…”, he whispered.

A silence fell over the group. None of them knew what to say. No reaction could ever be proper enough for the weight of this statement.

“I know it's a lot to take in…but I'm not the kind of girl who plays fucked up pranks to mess with a family. Here's my stand.” The light blue spirit smelling lightly of soap made its appearance out the back of Jolyne.

“It's called Stone Free. I'm able to turn my body into string. She demonstrates, unraveling her hand into clumps. “I have no kind of power to trick you. I got this stand after I was pricked with this.” She holds up the sharp stone for all to see.

“What is that?” Joseph spoke.

“I'm not sure myself…Dad never got around to explaining it but I can only assume it's connected to DIO.” She passes the rock into his palm.

“Avdol have you…?”

“No Mr. Joestar I've never seen anything like this…but if this object can give stands could it be…how DIO awakened the stands in you two?”

Joseph grits his teeth. “...Fine, we have no choice but to believe you.” He turns to Holy, “It seems like we'll be staying in Japan for a while.”

“Fine with me, I've invited Jolyne here to stay with us anyways!”

“Good.” He nods, “We have a lot more to talk about once we get home...”

The group stands to leave. Jotaro gives Jolyne one last glaring look into her emerald eyes. The expression was brief yet there was something intense she couldn't make out. He turns his back to her walking behind his grandfather.

Her face turns into a scowl leaving her with a bad taste, ‘I guess that went better than expected…Dad seems the same as ever…I just wish I knew what the bastard was thinking…!’
