Summary
The sun dipped behind the valley's cliffs, casting shadows across the beach. The sea reflected with a golden haze, waves lapping the edges. Elliott stood near the tide, hands in his coat pockets, boots sinking slightly into the sand. The salty air blew around him, flowing through his hair. They would be here soon. He glanced down at the picnic blanket he'd laid out. A modest thing, frayed at the corners, but spread carefully. He couldn’t even remember where he had gotten it, but he was glad that he had found it. Wine glasses, a wrapped basket, and a pair of fluffy pillows laid on top. The candles flickered with a gentle glow in small lanterns he had found at the back of Pierre’s shop. Not quite the ambiance of the Pirate’s Cove grotto he had once envisioned for such a night, but it’ll do.
