"How can you say that?" Deku's Mom said. Her chin was wobbling, like she might cry. "Did you think I could just forget? Izuku used to come home crying because of you. I won't forget it. I can't forgive it. Get out of my sight."

Deku's Mom laughed, quietly, caught behind her hands. It sounded the same as her crying. "No—I do have to forgive you, for my own sake. Izuku won't stop being friends with you, not for anything, so I'm stuck with you. I have to forgive you before I choke on my own bitterness. It's not about you at all."
"Do it then," Katsuki said. Attitudes grew out of choices—you could put on anger or mercy the same way you put on a scowl. You could force yourself into forgiveness, even if your arms got caught in the sleeves, because you knew the cold would kill you without it. Katsuki had already done it, already destroyed his own hate for Shigaraki out of his own inescapable sense of fairness—because once you got forgiven for everything, you gave up your own right not to forgive.
