Sibling rivalry.

Summary:

"Jax huffed, getting up—He would get those cookies, even if it was the last thing he did!... Which how things were going right now, he kinda felt like it would be.

"Don't be dumb, you're gonna hurt yourself again..." Zooble warned as they cross their arms, shifting their weight to one leg. Not that Jax was listening. This time, he climbed onto the colourful counters themselves. Who needs puny stools anyways?"

><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><

(Or, Jax is regressed, Zooble is a big sibling—Soblings hurt each others feelings sometimes, but they also come through in the end!)

Notes:

Prompt from my best friend Rick!

"Like, maybe you could write one where him and Zooble have a siblings dynamic, and basically just Zooble babysitting their little brother, and learning to get along."

Okay so this took me a couple days, but here it is!!

TWs:

Censored swearing, yelling, mild hurt (then comfort!) And a general warning for sibling bickering lol

(Also in the same AU as "Jax has feelings too." And I may or may not continue this as a series if I make a third fic!)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Jax felt fuzzy, all day. There wasn't an adventure today, just everyone kinda hanging out in their rooms and such. He heard Raggedy Ann playing from Ragatha's room. The sound of giggles came from Gangle and Kinger in their pillow fort. (Which he totally didn't build his own, they're dumb!) Pomni was probably having another crisis or something, whatever, same old. And Zooble... he actually doesn't know where they are.

Doesn't matter, right now—He's in the kitchen, reaching on his tippy toes to get the cookie jar down from it's oh so high shelf. Normally, Rags would scold him for this—But, ha! She's not even here. Who said mom's see everything? (Not-... not that he see's her as a mom-)

Slip. Jax had reached forward just a tad too much, and the wobbly stool beneath him slipped right out! He fell forward, bonking his chin cartoonishly on the counter before falling onto his back.

"Pfft- Oh my god..." He heard the voice of Zooble, they were trying not to laugh at his misery, and he would've felt his face heat up with embarrassment if he still had blood to go to his cheeks.

"Oh f#$% off!-" He realized his voice sounded less annoyed, more I'm about to cry. He sucked it up, though. He does not cry.

Zoobles snorts and had died down, eyes softening. "Uh... Geez, you okay, man?..."

"I'm fine!" He whimpers under his breath, slowly pushing himself up before curling up. He just wanted a dang snack!

"Geez, I was just asking..." They stopped themself from getting snippy, going back to an empathic tone. "Uh... hey, hey... uh, you don't look fine.." Zooble walked over to him, crouching down to his level to see where he bonked himself. Even though he tried to hide his face, Zooble could see a poorly drawn bruise start to form there.

They made a little sigh, "What were you even doing? I thought you weren't allowed in here anymore?"

"That's never stopped me before." He blew a raspberry.

Zooble's eyes narrowed, making a raspberry blowing noise even without a mouth.

Jax huffed, getting up—He would get those cookies, even if it was the last thing he did!... Which how things were going right now, he kinda felt like it would be.

They sigh tiredly.

"Don't be dumb, you're gonna hurt yourself... again." Zooble warned as they cross their arms, shifting their weight to one leg. Not that Jax was listening. This time, he climbed onto the colourful counters themselves. Who needs puny stools anyways?

"Jax- god..." Zooble mumbled before walking forward, stabilizing Jax as he nearly fell again.

"No need your help." He grumbled.

"Pft, you nearly fell on your a$$ again, genius." They said as they help lift him up, he ignored them in favour of exclaiming with victory. He nabbed the cookie jar!

Meanwhile, Zooble making sure he got lowered relatively safely, as to avoid any further bonking incidents.

"Hehehehe!" He went to make his break for it, but Zooble grabbed the back of his overalls, suspending him into the air and giving him a humoured look. "This, is the thanks I get?"

"Mhm!" He nodded with a mischievous expression. Zooble couldn't help but give a lazy grin with their eyes. "Yeah yeah. Tell you what, gimme a cookie, and I'll hang out with you."

"Mmm... no!"

"Huh," Zooble dropped him. "Guess I'll have to just tell Ragatha you took the cookies, then." The bunny gasped.

"Don't you dare tell Mama!"

"I'll totally tell Mom." They would absolutely be adorning a $h!t eating grin if they had a mouth to do so.

He grumbled 'don't need a babysitter...' under his breath, before handing Zooble an oatmeal raisin cookie reluctantly. The older seemed a bit surprised, not expecting Jax to have ever paid attention to their favourite—Hell, they themself barely remembered their own favourite. But hey, it was appreciated.

"Thanks, guess I'm hanging with you now."

"Finnnnnneeee! Let's just go..." He pouted, his posture was slumped as he scampers away, Zooble trailing him. In, all honesty, they really didn't want to hang out with him majority of the time. Could you blame them? They don't really like hanging out with anyone in this circus of coo-coos. But especially Jax, he made an active effort to get on their nerves. He's a bully, so on.

...But.

He, regressed, is honestly... kinda cute?... And a whole lot more of a troublemaker, they couldn't bring themself to turn a blind eye while he gets into who knows what. No matter how weird that felt to acknowledge.

Jax lead Zooble to a door they... haven't really seen before, "No snitchy, 'kay?" He said, fishing a light pink key out of his pocket. Zooble made a lips zipped motion with their hands to the place their mouth would've been.

He opens the door and tries to shut it in the face of the older, who easily pushed it open. Their eyes widen a bit, "...When the @#$% was this here?" They murmur. The room was a nursery, and it seemed to very clearly have Jax in mind. Pastel purples and pinks and yellows alike coated it's interior. Several of Jax's colouring books, toys, and binkys scattered on the floor, definitely not tidy in the slightest, not that they cared. And the same icon that went on Jax's unused room was carved into the crib in the corner.

"Caine changed it for me." Jax suddenly said, putting his cookies in his pillow fort—Zooble didn't think he liked those.

They go over to it, "So... what do you do around here for fun?" They question. There clearly were alot of activities at the bunnies disposal.

"None ya!"

Zooble decided to take the bait, "Nome ya what?"

Snickers came from inside the fort, "None ya buisness!"

"Oof, rude—Can I have another cookie?"

"No!"

They take the pillow fort door,  holding it up in the air like they did to Jax eariler. "Cool, I like stealing cookies from little brats." They spoke in a joking tone, then yoink the jar before Jax came dive in to save it—Thus, he crashes into the unstable wall of his pillow fort, the whole thing shook with a cartoony look, before finally collapsing on top of him.

Zooble sucked in a sharp gasp, face scrunching up. "$h!t- Jax?" They hadn't meant to ruin it, but clearly they'd caused that—As Jax looked distraught at his crumbled work. Before an angry expression appeared on his face, ears pinning back.

"Argh! Stupid stupid stupid!" He threw a pillow, hands knocking against his head before pointing accusingly towards them. "This is why I don't let stupid heads in here!" He stomped off, before Zooble could stop him.

"Jax- hey, you crashed into it!" Their tone got frustrated, before they paused, face palming. They didn't have a clue on how to deal with kids, but, they had enough sense to realize that being angry at anger was just gonna make things worse... probably? They don't know!

They look at the cookie jar in their arms, sighing.

After taking a second to chill, Zooble started walking over to the corner, where he was angrily scribbling. Slowly, the circus member crouch down.

"Kid?" He didn't respond. "I- I didn't mean to make you upset... I was just trying to tease you... I—Believe this or not, okay? I wouldn't ever break something of yours on purpose, okay?" He glanced over at them, face of anger softening just a bit before he colored again.

They put the cookie jar down, slowly sliding it over to him. "I did steal the cookies on purpose though." They thought it'd make him atleast giggle, but he shoved it back their way.

Okay, so... not working out. Plan B...

Destruction.

"...I'm... sorry, I'll totally rebuild the fort... And," They added, getting his slight attention. "...Honestly, the cookies are totally to blame for all this. I say we break it."

"...Really?" He finally looks at them, they nod. "@#$%, yeah."

He slowly started to shake with excitement, giggling like a maniac. He held the jar up with both hands, colours abandoned, "YES!"

They snorted, pushing themself up. "H3ll yeah."

Jax jumped up and down really, really quickly with it within his devious grasp, waiting for the go from Zooble, who popped off their arm to give to him as a bat. "Go wild, kid."

"Nehehehe!" He dropped it and swung the arm, it burst into dozens of (really poorly rendered) shards, and he went to town on smashing the cookies and glass alike into a powder of crumbles. Only a small part of them regretted not getting another cookie, but the bigger part was really warming up to this side of Jax.

Besides, he was having a blast—What's a dinged up arm, crumbled cookies, amd a little mess going to hurt?

And plus, he totally was gonna wear himself out like this, and then they could watch him crash, and hijack the TV they saw somewhere in here, it was a win win...

Maybe this whole, 'babysitting' thing? Wasn't so bad.
