Summary
Thoros Nott was raised to be quiet. He must uphold his family’s tenuous place among the Sacred Twenty-Eight and stand beside the Blacks, as Nott men have always done. Unfortunately, Thoros decides to speak for himself one day and befriends Abraxas Malfoy. He is thus set on a path towards war and death, one intrinsically tied to the man that will ruin Abraxas’ life: Tom Riddle.
At Hogwarts, Riddle is a star yet to implode, but the black hole he will leave in his wake—Lord Voldemort—will drag everyone Thoros holds dear toward darkness. Though Thoros doesn’t follow Riddle into that abyss, he stands very, very close to those who do. Until one day, the plunge feels less like a choice and more like an inevitability.
This is not a story of a man who makes history, but one who merely survives it.
Or: A retelling of Tom Riddle’s origin story, spanning from 1940 to 1981, through the eyes of Thoros Nott. He wasn’t important enough to matter to the story—just unlucky enough to be caught in the crossfire.

Description:"The world believes Lord Voldemort's been dead since 1981. And he wishes for it to stay that way, thank you."
The story J.K. Rowling was too much of a coward to write. A series of canon divergent works completely overhauling the lore and characters of Harry Potter. The main story is Retired Prometheus, where Lord Voldemort is dead…to the world, and Montgomery Goldsmith (a completely new and definitely unrelated character) becomes Hermione Granger’s mentor. Featuring:
* in-depth examinations of pureblood culture and politics,
* world building?? a painstaking amount of it actually,
* “bad” and “evil” characters who are humanized without having their actions excused,
* nuance, nuance, nuance,
* the author trying to get you to visit Montenegro,
* a token straight character (you’ll never guess who),
* experiencing The Horrors ft. Hermione Granger
* one man’s increasingly desperate attempts to avoid therapy,
* the world’s messiest relationship,
* and a thorough deconstruction of Lord Voldemort’s shitshow of a life.Updated: 2026-03-30
