“So, let me get this straight,” Sirius started, squinting thoughtfully, “the gods are real.”
“Yes.” Thalia nodded.
“And you kids are all demigods.”
“Mhm.” Katie confirmed.
“And all the monsters and heroes from the Greek myths actually exist.”
“Yup.” Zuri said, “And everything from the Roman myths too.”
“And the Norse.” Nico added.
“And didn’t Aaralyn mention something about the Egyptians too at one point?” Travis continued.
“McKinnon met the Egyptians?” Apollo asked, curiously.
“Yeah.” Grover nodded, “Her and Percy had a run in with them.”
“Percy and Ara know everyone.” Leo rolled his eyes, “They’re like the Starbucks of the mythological world.”
“Isn’t that Hercules?” Jason asked.
“Not anymore.”
The Wixen were in shock. Even more so than before.
Greek world. Romans. Norse myths. Egyptians. How many pantheons were there?!
“Try not to think about it too much.” Will suggested, noticing the wixen’s wide-eyed expressions, “It’ll just get too confusing otherwise.”
Sirius held his head in his hands, his brain hurting from the influx of information. Remus wasn’t doing much better, staring at the floor as though it would help him make the world make sense again.
McGonagall and Flitwick were both suitably surprised, but more focussed on the children involved in this world, and the danger they could be in. Already, they’d witnessed Percy go up against two ancient monsters, both trying to kill him, and they couldn’t imagine what else lay in store for him and Aaralyn.
Snape and Dumbledore, on the other hand, were more interested in the possibility of these demigods helping them in their own war. Having a handful of trained warriors against the Death Eaters would be particularly useful, especially if they all had abilities like Percy. They could easily turn the tide of the war.
Amelia Bones and the Aurors were having similar thoughts, though they would never purposely involve children in war unless absolutely necessary. Mad-Eye was more curious about the training methods these demigods went through and wondered if he could make use of them in the Auror training.
Unlike the adults, the younger Wixen had accepted the existence of gods relatively easy. Hermione, of course, took longer than the others, but even she had to admit that, after the discovery of magic, finding out that the mythological world was real wasn’t such a big step. No, the kids were just interested in what powers the children of gods could have. Were the children of Hermes really fast? Could Zeus’s children control lightning? Did the children of Apollo get energy from the sun, like solar panels?
They all had many questions, but no one knew where to start.
“How about we all introduce ourselves?” Persephone suggested, her beauty making the wixen blink in awe.
“Good idea.” Demeter, her mother, agreed, “I shall go first. I am Demeter, Goddess of Agriculture and Fertility.” – she then summoned a bowl of cereal – “Cereal, anyone?”
“Mother.” Persephone rolled her eyes, ignoring the way Demeter practically forced a bowl of bran flakes into Nico’s hands.
“I shall go next,” Hestia spoke up, “I am Hestia, Goddess of the Hearth.”
She then glared at her remaining siblings, silently ordering them to continue with the introductions. They withered under her gaze, and quickly did as she asked.
“I am Hera, Goddess of Marriage and Family, Queen of the Gods.”
(The demigods glared at her)
“I am Zeus, God of the Sky, Thunder, Lightning, Kingship, and Justice. King of the Gods.”
(Thalia snorted at the mention of ‘justice’)
“I am Poseidon, God of the Sea, Storms, and Earthquakes. King of Atlantis.”
(The demigods didn’t have anything bad to say about Poseidon, and many of them even smiled at him)
“I am Hades, God of the Dead and Riches. King of the Underworld.”
(The Wixen shot him a wary look, but the demigods remained relaxed. Nico and Hazel shot their father a warm smile)
The other gods introduced themselves – Apollo and Artemis arguing over who the older twin was; Hephaestus not even glancing up from his tinkering; and Hecate earning an awed look from the Wixen – and then it was the demigods’ turn.
“My name’s Thalia.” The Huntress started, “Daughter of Zeus, and Lieutenant of the Hunters of Artemis.”
“Grover Underwood.” The satyr went next, “Lord of the Wild, and Leader of the Council of Cloven Elders.”
(This earned him a few curious looks, but the Wixen remained silent)
“Clarisse La Rue, Daughter of Ares. Drakon Slayer.”
“Dragon slayer?!” Charlie screeched, his eye twitching angrily.
“Drakon slayer.” Clarisse replied, with a scowl, “It’s different.”
“My name’s Will Solace.” Will quickly cut in, before Clarisse and Charlie could start a brawl, “I’m the son of Apollo.”
“I’m Nico Di Angelo.” The smaller boy didn’t move from his place tucked into Marlene’s side, “Son of Hades. The Ghost King, and Ambassador of Pluto.”
(The Wixen gave Nico a wary look, much like they did his father, but they quickly turned away when faced with Thalia and Marlene’s glares)
“Travis Stoll, son of Hermes.”
“And I’m Connor Stoll, also a son of Hermes.”
“My name’s Katie Gardener, and I’m a daughter of Demeter.”
“Piper McLean, daughter of Aphrodite and Hero of Olympus.”
(The Wixen furrowed their eyebrows at the title, but didn’t ask)
“I’m Admiral Leo Valdez, Bad-Boy Supreme, Son of Hephaestus, Captain of the Argo II, and Hero of Olympus.” Leo took a dramatic bow, only to yelp when Piper punched his arm.
“That hurt, Beauty Queen!” He grumbled, sitting down again with a pout. Piper rolled her eyes, and Jason shook his head in amusement.
“My name’s Jason Grace, son of Jupiter, Hero of Olympus, and Pontifex Maximus.”
“Wait, you’re Roman?” Tonks asked, and Jason nodded.
“Uh- I’m Frank Zhang. Son of Mars, Legacy of Poseidon, Hero of Olympus, and Praetor of the Twelfth Legion.”
“Hazel Levesque,” The golden-eyed girl smiled warmly at everyone, “daughter of Pluto, Hero of Olympus, and Centurion of the Fifth Cohort.”
“Reyna Ramirez-Arellano. Daughter of Bellona, and Praetor of the Twelfth Legion.”
Finally, Zuri introduced herself with a small wave.
“And I’m Zuri Michaels, daughter of Athena, and Aaralyn’s favourite sister.”
She said the last part with a cheeky grin, and both Marlene and Carol laughed, knowing it was true.
“Well then,” Poseidon spoke up, “now that we’ve all introduced ourselves, we should continue with the next chapter.”
“Wait!”
Everyone turned to look at Ginny, and she flushed under their gaze.
“Just,” she stuttered, “can we please take a short break first?” – she glanced at her friends and then mumbled – “I really need the loo.”
Ron snickered, but everyone agreed that a short break would be fine.
Ginny immediately sprinted to the bathroom (which had appeared off to the side) and a few others followed close behind.
Athena managed to convince Dionysus to provide a refreshment stand – packed with diet coke cans, grapes, and popcorn weirdly enough – and as soon as he did, the demigods rushed over to collect their snacks.
The seating arrangements changed slightly in this time, with the Wixen and the demigods sitting a bit closer together, allowing them to chat and mingle. Remus and Sirius were sat closer to Marlene, pointedly ignoring the two Malfoys sat next to her, and Nico and Thalia moved to sit with the Sprout couple (who had basically become the adopted grandmothers to half of Camp Half-Blood).
Off to the side, Poseidon and Athena used this opportunity to talk.
“It seems we are getting the chance to learn the details of our children’s lives.” Athena started, not sneering as she usually did with the Sea God, but still not appearing particularly friendly.
“Indeed. Along with their love story.” Poseidon replied, eyeing the Wisdom Goddess carefully.
Athena grit her teeth, but forced herself to relax.
“Yes. It’s become clear that, no matter how much we disapprove, your son and my daughter are inseparable.”
“Our rivalry aside, they are a good match.”
“I suppose.”
“Soon, I think we will be in-laws.”
“Indeed.”
“I would hate for our conflict to interfere with their relationship.”
Athena narrowed her eyes, picking up on what he was truly trying to say.
“I agree.” She replied, “My daughter has done so much for us-”
“As has my son”
“- she deserves to have a good life.”
“Right. And if my son and your daughter eventually have children…”
“We would not want them to see their grandparents fighting.”
“Exactly.”
“So, perhaps we can put aside our rivalry,” Poseidon continued, fighting to keep a straight face, “at least for a few decades. For the sake of our grandchildren.”
“I suppose that’s reasonable.” Athena nodded.
“Good.”
“Good.”
They fell silent.
A minute passed.
And then another.
And then…
“Did you see how your son called my daughter ‘pretty’?”
“Indeed. He’s already smitten, he just doesn’t know it yet.”
“Understandable. My daughter truly is amazing.”
“She will be a wonderful daughter-in-law.”
And that’s how the God of the Seas and the Goddess of Wisdom abandoned their age-old rivalry in favour of gossiping about their favourite children.
