Chapter Text
You observe a small swarm of bees buzzing alongside the just planted sunflowers as you look out towards the rest of the yard. Their tiny black and yellow coats sparkled in the harsh sunlight that was slowly descending. You enjoy seeing them go about their day so much. Your garden is slowly coming alo-
"Excuse me," On the opposite side of your gate, a worrying voice attracts your attention. Standing there, bending into your garden as if he had misplaced something, was a pretty tall and extremely well-dressed man. “You haven't possibly s-seen a small creature, have you?
“Could you be more specific?”, you question as you stood there perplexed.
He quickly unlocks the gate, enters your garden, and scans the variety of flowers and plants while completely disregarding your presence. A large brown case was in one of his hands; you dread to think what’s inside it. He then continues, “Well, it’s a small black creature with a snout, and a pouch. For a muggle it’ll be something close to a platypus, or a mole even.”
A platypus in a small village? That’s absurd. You ask out of confusion, “A platypus, here? And what is a muggle?” Being called a ‘muggle’ felt like an insult.
Worried, you try to grab your phone to contact the police, or a doctor. This man seems unwell, as if he has lost his mind.
He then finally replies, “Y-yes, well, it escaped not long ago and it ran in this direction. It really likes shiny things, do you perhaps have a lot of jewellery in your house?” He ignores your questions and asks almost as if in a hurry. He slowly moves closer towards your house and you feel your paranoia growing. What is he going to do with you?
Tentatively, you reply, hoping to buy some extra time, “Well, anyone would have jewellery in their house, but I don’t have an obscene amount of it, no” In the meantime you reach over to the table beside you where your phone… was. It was no longer there so you have no choice but to face the man, who has already moved too close for you to run away.
His eyes glance around, at you and around you, unable to find something to focus on. “Are you missing something?” He asks.
How did he know? The more this went on, the more it seemed like a trap and you felt in danger. Perhaps he was the one who moved your phone.
Running out of options, you reply, “Yes my phone. What have you done with it?” You feel yourself becoming more defensive as you gradually begin to lose patience.
Almost instantly he lunges towards you, causing you to turn away from him. He wasn't aiming for you, though; instead, he was grasping the little black creature he had previously mentioned.
You scowl as you glance at the animal he was carrying. It truly appeared as though a platypus and a mole had combined. But, that is not feasible; there is no way that those two animals could have been successfully crossed. Something feels off about this.
“There you are little one, get in the case,” The man opens up his case and gently but hastily puts the animal in, “As for you, here is your phone. Apologies about that, I am in a rather big hurry. Take care.”
Before you even have time to say anything he heads out of the garden and down the path, clearly desperate to get somewhere on time.
Your legs felt weak so you quickly plop yourself down on the lawn chair. Looking down you see your phone, the gems you stuck on now gone, perhaps the little creature took them. Did you just hallucinate from being out in the sun all day? The sky was getting darker, reminding you it was time for bed, meaning you must have been sitting there for a while, wondering what on earth just happened.
