“Your Highness,” Xie Lian begins, letting his voice become soft and kind in a way that feels much too forced. He slides his hands across the table and grabs onto Lang Qianqiu—his grip is quick and tight, but not so much that it’s taken as a threat. The prince is still staring back at him, lip trembling like a child who isn’t sure whether to yell or cry. “Your Highness,” Xie Lian repeats, “All you have to do, to end all of this, is kill me.”
Lang Qianqiu’s brows furrow. “What?”
“Kill me,” Xie Lian repeats, and smiles behind the veil. His eyes crinkle, turning into half crescents. “Once you do that, you can move on.”
After the Gilded Banquet Massacre, Xie Lian is imprisoned by his former student. Lang Qianqiu wants answers. Xie Lian wants Lang Qianqiu to 'kill' him already so he can find a nice, new, different country to struggle in.
